Former Indian Prairie District 204 superintendent Tom Scullen died early Wednesday morning in Appleton, Wis., after a long battle with cancer.
Scullen served as superintendent in District 204 for nine years, retiring from the position in 1995. He moved to Appleton that year, where he served as superintendent of the Appleton Area School District.

Scullen was set to retire from that district at the end of July. He was 68.
“Tom was an exceptionally strong leader and he brought to us the intense fortitude we needed to get through some periods of exceptional growth,” District 204 school board president Mark Metzger said Wednesday morning.
In 2001, Thomas G. Scullen Middle School opened in the far southwest part of Naperville.
