I received an email yesterday regarding the upcoming boys volleyball state game which is to be held this Friday at 2:00 pm at Hoffman Estates HS. Students who wish to ride the pep bus, need to have permission slips in by today. The bus leaves NV at 12:15 and will return home around 5:00 pm.
First off, how can IHSA schedule a game during regular school hours? Second, how can the school endorse students missing a half day of school to attend the game?

First question should be directed to the IHSA. Not like the schools have any choice on how they schedule the games. I imagine it has to do with availability of the venue and such. Can't imagine the fun making all those schedules are for the IHSA. Second question, some kids are going to go no matter what. I would rather see a bus taking the kids as opposed to 10 or 15 cars driven by Juniors and recent grads crammed full of kids heading over there. ETA: Go Neuqua!

Girls soccer quaterfinals are all day Friday - I think Boys soccer is the same way. Boys & Girls basketball is the same way. Football finals happen to be over Thanksgiving so no conflict there, but it seems like the conflicts are isolated to one day per sport. ETA: I don't necessarily endorse this, but this is how it's been for a while. I just don't see the IHSA changing things.
