Well didn't work for BB so I don't expect it to work for any other site. Not everybody was going to go to their closest school. Not everybody was getting the best deal for their area. I get it that you were not assigned to the closest school so you don't have any empathy for people in your same situation. Some areas are currently in that situation today due to someone's idea when NV opened that the split had to be N/S instead of E/W. Yet some people from these areas still understand and empathize with others getting the short end of the stick. Imagine that. You are wrong about that. I do empathize. I also understand that we have no voice here. The district will select a site they can afford and build us a school and it better be timely. In case you don't realize it, Gombert could end up just about anywhere, northern site, macom site, WV. Do I have a preference? Yes I do. Does it matter? No it doesn't. Ultimately, the district will tell us what school our kids get to go there and that will be that. I have said from the get go, I would support MV anywhere. I do understand certain area's preferences and dreads but lets face it, I just want the school built and the overcrowding alleviated. My daughter is starting high school in 2009. I would love to be able to tell her where she is going and where she will graduate from.

I don't really recall a lot of empathy being asked for until a northern site came up. I didn't see a lot of empathy for BD and GOM with the BB site. There were just asked to take one for the team. You're kidding, right? ipsd204.proboards76.com/index.cgi?board=archivedtopics&action=display&thread=1138893123&page=1Posted by 'sacrificial lamb' Feb 2, 2006 And by the way, those of you who support Brookdale and have sympathy for our situation....I thank you for your words and suggestions. We have truly tried to present our platform in a reasonable way....I know a few of our members got a wee bit wound up last night (okay, maybe more than wee) but I really think that was because they were pushed beyond the limits of reason. My guess is that like all others who have misbehaved, a few days away from the meeting will give them perspective and they too will regret their actions. As some Tallgrass people indicated after their little mishap....they are not all that way. I will say the same thing about Brookdale. We had been told by the school board that they had heard nothing from us and that we needed to make a community effort. We gave them community effort but in order to placate Stonebridge and Oakhurst, it made no difference.

That's because it was not them.

And we still will take one for the team, wherever we are asked to go. Done worrying about things. Send us wherever, my kid will get an awesome education in whatever building she attends. Just get it built so that my other child in HS has some room to breathe.

Some people will, and some won't, empathize, but everyone will need to move on. The above post, talking about "presenting platforms" and talking about placating certain areas sure seems to be creating more of a problem, than a solution. If people keep acting like this, there will be more division in 204. If people accept the MV location & boundaries without divisive LTEs, constant complainting, name-calling, threats of lawsuits, threats of failing the 09 Ref, etc. then things will be much better off.

I also understand that we have no voice here. The district will select a site they can afford and build us a school and it better be timely. We disagree on this point. I disagree with Metzger's point about stating that the community did not have input on the site selection the first time around. We did. If everyone hated the site enough to vote no, the ref would have failed. Having selecting the site and boundaries and promising to deliver on those things, I think it would be disrespectful to not solicit community input on the site at this point. But you are right, they can do whatever the heck they want with the money at this point - build the high school in Wisconsin - and not break the law.

He could have meant west of 59 and quickly typed south. Regardless, I understand the point of his letter. If this guy lives half a mile from NV and the bridge allows a clear walking path, then he has a right to gripe if his kids are not assigned there. If it's due to school board members looking out for their own elementary school area first - then I think he's got double right to gripe. Again, I understand his issue but let's review for a minute: 1/ he has an ES in his subdivision 2/ he has a MS in his subdivision 3/ the most his commute changes is 1 -2 miles and still goes to no worse than the 2nd closest HS for most areas - this would be quite the winning scenario So while everyone has a right to want it all - sympathy for this will be very low from most.

Good point. But I still understand that people just want to go to the closest school to them. Well didn't work for BB so I don't expect it to work for any other site. Not everybody was going to go to their closest school. Not everybody was getting the best deal for their area. However no one was going to have to attend the furthest of 3 schools from their home @ BB. While not everyone will get the best deal for their area - no area should get the worst deal.

There is no way to know what school Gombert will be assigned to if AME is selected. Makes sense not to have kids bused past one school to attend another but the Gombert area did just that before the ES was built. It could happen again and Gombert gets the "worst" deal. Educational opportunities are the same no matter what school they attend. I would accept that.

There is no mathematical solution to avoid at least 1 area - and as many as 3 going to the furthest location - if there was it surely would have been scoped out here. Also if that solution existed very little of this conversation would be taking place.

Alright, how about this one in the same thread posted by proschool? I also support Brookdale at the 3rd HS. I was for Gombert at 3rd as well but the litle bit of public comment that they did make was that Gombert wanted to stay at WV. Why did Howie's input matter more than the residents' in the end? No one asked his optinion prior to this point.
I would think that any board member can make a motion at any meeting to swap Brookdale with Gombert (or White Eagle for that matter). If there is a second there should be a vote. I would like to see what each board member has to say on an up or down vote on this one issue. My point is that I'm sick of the "suck it up and take one for the team" attitude regarding the north site. And to DRW's point, if timeliness is the only priority then we would be building on BB right now.

The only thing that I have to say about boundaries is that, what I personally view as fair and equitable and best for all of 204, there must be achievement balance across the HSs. I've been consistant about this. I don't care how it's done, but it needs to be done. My point is that I'm sick of the "suck it up and take one for the team" attitude regarding the north site. Someone's going to be asked to suck it up, no matter the site. I guess everyone is defending why they shouldn't be the ones sucking it up. And to DRW's point, if timeliness is the only priority then we would be building on BB right now. If BB could be done (i.e. cost), it would.
