Great we have some folks out there with innovative ideas on how to resolve our MS and HS overcrowding problems. ------ Two high schools needed in District 204 I'm quite surprised that I have not heard of what I think is the solution for the dilemma that District 204 finds itself in. Shifts. I taught for many years at York High School when we were on shifts. Some of our surrounding school districts are on shifts. With a declining enrollment at the elementary level, using shifts to take care of the overcrowding at the high school for a few years would save the taxpayers quite a few bucks and make a lot of sense - because the third high school would not be needed. We have two very fine high schools - Neuqua Valley and Waubonsie Valley - in District 204. In my opinion, that's all we need. Alex Naidenovich Naperville

WHOAH, split shifts! I wonder how the public would vote if they had that choice? Let me go look up the 2006 results. Hmm. Nope, they didn't like that idea.

There was plenty of discussion on split shifts and nobody liked the idea.
If she never heard it being discussed she wasn't paying attention.

I recall years ago Argo high school in Summit went to split shifts. The school was falling apart, badly overcrowded and the district was too poor to afford a new school and referendums asking for new money failed. While I don't know all of the details Argo lost its accreditation reportedly over it. Shifts are only seriously considered when the situation is desperate like the above. #204 is just crowded not broke.

I believe the long term idea is that if you can make the system broke, your taxes go down.

If we look on the bright side, at least it's not one of the same people who writes in again and again.
