I would have to respectfully disagree with you on that point. The money used to purchase that 25 acres came from two places - land cash donations from developers and money from the 2001 referendum to be used for a new middle school. Is this part of the problem from BB's standpoint? Does a middle school vs. a high school change anything? Even if it goes in BBs favor and we can't purchase the remaining 55 acres, I don't see the district selling the property back for 2 reasons - - we may eventually need it for another ES or MS; and hopefully we have many many years to do that (I didn't see that the agreement was exclusive to putting a HS there.) - I believe 124 Mil is enough to buy a different full 80 acres and build a school So do I. Why are we overpaying and waiting for this property?lacy - I don't want to re-hash the site selection, however, imo it would be unwise for the SB not to leave some wiggle room in the 124 mil number. Looking back through the newspaper articles, it appears the new hs should cost 90-95 mil so that leaves 29 for property acquisiton/site preparation (if needed). That was several months ago, and construction costs are not getting any cheaper with gas at $3/gal (I just read today that the fed is considering another rate hike to counter inflation.) Anyway... the district will issue enough bonds to cover the cost of the school and site ... the referendum gave them the authority to issue up to 124 mil, but they don't have to use all of the money. I know you are not a fan of BB, I happen to think it is the best location due to its central location. I wouldn't want the new hs to be on the fringe of the district, but that's just my opinion. iirc, several of the other sites are 'not for sale' either and would therefore require condemnation as well. I am personally not ready to give up on BB just yet - I really haven't seen anything new or different in the past month to make me think anything's changed. You want to move on; we can just agree to disagree. eta - and I don't believe it matters what type of 'school' the district builds on the 25 acres it already has ( HS, MS, ES, Preschool, joint school with COD, etc.); but I have not checked with any SB members on that point.

I am sorry I meant Granger From DPC post in the DH/CV interview thread Finally, I've lived in the WV attendance area for 15 years and have two children in MS at Granger. DPC, you know too much about the SD to not know who Kathy is. I don't know who Kathy is and you know too much about the SD to not be on the SB or married to one, or be an employee of the SD. Which is it?

All I can ask is - How much in legal fees is this costing our district? You guys talk about a "little extra cushion" - What do you think Whitt Law firm is charging? (BTW- that is our district law firm)

(BTW- that is our district law firm) They are most likely on retainer, so i don't think it's costing the SD Gobs more ( I am sure there are a few extra fees)...At least I sure hope so.

There is no nerve struck with me.

From what I have read, GCD law firm is one (there may be more) firms which represent the BB estate. When they settled originally at the 257,500/acre figure, the estate would only receive half of the proceeds. Bob - BTW google gcd.com and look under their 2004 annual review - I know you like cold hard facts.

If you read the article, it talks about what the SD originally offered for the land and what they actually settled for during condemnation of that property.

On page 21 of their annual review it states that the SD original offer was $105,000/acre. After two years of litigation, they settled on 257,500/acre - half of which the estate will receive.

Sure - During the referendum I posted this - guess no one listened. Do a search for gcd.com. You will find several to choose from. Go to gcd.com search. Type in 2004 annual review. Go to page 21 (on their brochure) and read away. Guys, I really do try and post facts and NO I"M NOT A MEMBER OF CFO!
