Just got this in my email from Still-News
Metea Valley Colors and Mascot
Middle school students who will attend Metea Valley High School when it opens recently had the opportunity to vote on the school's colors and mascot.
Dr. Birkett, assistant superintendent of secondary education, announced that the students selected black and gold for the school's colors. However, the mascot is still to be determined as the vote was extremely close between Mustangs and Wolverines.
As a result, students will have a chance to develop campaign materials in support of the Mustangs and the Wolverines and there will be a run-off vote in March.
Dr. Birkett would like to thank all of Metea Valley's future students for participating in the vote.

Are Mustangs already in use in the district?
May Watts (a school set to feed to MVHS) are already the wolverines.

I think that some McCarty goes to MVHS. potentially 60 students from McCarty I liked Mavericks because of alliteration with Matea ( Mustangs 2nd) - and because no near by high school were the Mavericks. I know my daughter said her class was Purple & Gold #1 - but obviously more wanted to look like a bumble bee -- ( Hinsdale south already Hornets to match black - gold )

Sweet - Black and Gold means the EagleDad clan can re-use all the Boilermaker garb. If the pick Wolverines, we can re-use the Grade school stuff (WE Wolves). Man, I'm so cheap

So we'll go to MVHS vs. NVHS games, look for the Navy Blue and Gold cheering section, or the Black and Gold cheering section...get ourselves all mixed up, not know where to sit...NV people next to MV people...
WAIT this must be secret administration initiative to address unity issues in the district! ;D

Does anyone else find it premature that the SD is having students vote on school colors/mascots? Right now it doesn't seem likely that we'll have the 3rd HS finished on time but we move ahead with business as ususal? Will the kids voting on these decisions really be there?
I have serious reservations that this school will open 2009. Any one else?
What's the back-up plan B?

I agree, Casey. Seems like they're putting the cart before the horse.
I get the feeling they are just toying with the students.
What is the back -up?

Has Macom come back with a better offer or more complete information?
There's no reason to wait to pick colors or a mascot.
Did you wait for your child to be born before picking out a name or clothes or other things that would be required or were some things ready and decided upon in advance?

Nope, I dont find it premature. The vote is for fun, good for the kids, good for their spirits. Dont look at this as a legalistic, strict voting rights issue. I dont think anybody is gonna worry about hanging chad in this vote. In the very very worst case and 7th grdrs (half the vote) stick in their original HS....I'll consider them casting their votes as "youth community representatives", not as future grads. In fact, WV and NV students helped with color, mascot ideas and suggestion. I take them as serving as fun, district wide representives in this process. Remember, its the entire district building this school. I'm not ready to say "doestn see likely" schedule holds. If the land is aquired in spring, the orig schedule stands. If its summer after a trial....I'm guessing the schedule can be compressed, slight scope adjustment. (not a construction expert)

I get the feeling they are just toying with the students. If administration is "toying with students" by having them vote on colors...what in the world do you call what BB Estate and "Mr. Macomb" are doing to them?

Unless you know something we don't, the plan all along said that if the school was started this summer it would be done to open Fall 2009, that is with no expedited schedule. The quick-take meeting in Springfield is next week. Although we may still have to go to trial, I hope it goes through next week to stop the endless panic over BB. And 6th graders also voted on the colors - they will not be there until 2010. No one is 'toying' with them.
