The Metea Valley High School Mustangs or Wolverines?
The fate of the new high school mascot lies in the hands of students from Hill, Scullen and Still middle schools who will vote for their favorite choice this Friday.
A group of 30 students from the three middle schools met at the District 204 Education Center on Friday to develop a marketing campaign for both sides.

"I really think (the mascot) should be the Mustang because Metea and Mustangs go together," said Sahana Srivatsan, a sixth-grader from Scullen. "I don't even know what a Wolverine is."
The Wolverine supporters went to work surfing the Internet for pictures of their small but fierce animal.
"I think we should keep with the W's," said Brian Shinn, a seventh-grader at Hill. "We already have the Waubonsie Warriors and Neuqua Wildcats, so it should be the Metea Wolverines."
Kathy Birkett, assistant superintendent of secondary education, said students submitted ideas for mascots several weeks ago. The Wolverine and Mustang received the most votes, so she decided to have a run-off.
The participating students will be attending Metea Valley, which will open in 2009 with freshmen and sophomores. The school is slated to be built on 80 acres of land along 75th Street and the future extension of Commons Drive in Aurora. The district has filed a condemnation lawsuit for the 55 acres adjacent to the 25 it already owns.
The school colors will be black and gold, keeping with the theme of each high school having gold as one of its school colors.
Birkett said it is important to get the students involved with the new school as much as possible.
"The students are building an identity with the building," Birkett said.
A ballot box will be placed in each of the three schools and on Friday during lunch periods. Each school has a list of students who will attend Metea Valley and those students will get to vote. An equal number of Mustang and Wolverine supporters will be manning the tables at each school. Birkett said the intention was to make the process as fair for each side as possible.
The students will display their posters and start distributing their fliers on Monday.
May Watts Elementary School has the Mustangs and Kendall Elementary School has the Wolverines as its mascot. However, no area high school has either of those as its mascot.
Birkett said since Metea will be in the Upstate Eight Conference, the school can't have the same mascot as any of the teams already in the conference.
"I really like being a part of this," said Kavya Pai, a seventh grader from Still and a Mustang supporter.
