This is issue that I never really deeply thought about before. Yet, for two MV site locations (St J, Mac) this is something to educate ourselves on. For starters, my uneducated standard is to require that the EMF issue is < or = to that of the NVHS site. I too am dubious about utility company reports. I am sure there are slanted, or exaggerations on both sides. I would be interested what other people find on this issue. We are fortunate to have poster with past experience on this (thank you, forthekids). I will start with a brief DOE summary doc. Study of electric utility workers over about 30 yrs. Looking for higher cancer rates. Concl seems to be "inconclusive". They couldnt say yes, or no. (One issue of course is it can be hard to prove a negative). Here is the link: www.hss.energy.gov/HealthSafety/WSHP/epi/docs/hb93-4.pdfedit: this apparently isnt DOE work, just a bulletin reference work in some scientific journal. Maybe this thread can be used to share interesting info people find.

I used to live in Lisle and had many friends who lived in the Meadows Subdiv. With the High Tension wires in their back yard. We could go out at night with a flourescent tube, and it would glow......I do not recall any people having a higher incident of anything that lived near them.
I also lived in Pheasant Creek (McCarty ES), My back yard there backed up to the High tension wires and the EJ&E. No problems with either.

Coincidentally (and fortunately for us interested in this topic), the local news is coming out with a story on this topic.
Beacon News top of front page announces: CBS 2's Dave Savini has report on this topic at 10pm tonight (Nov 12). And Beacon News will have a story printed tomorrow (Nov 13).
The preview of this story states "ComEd Exposed: CBS2/Beacon News investigation uncovers serious dangers with power lines around your home."
We'll see what the reporters have to say.

Can I say that I think the Bolingbrook site would be TERRIFIC! There are plenty of kids on that end of the district. In the site report it was the cheapest of all the selections.

Just a side note on tonight's meeting. The Board will be voting on all day kindergarten beginning in 2008.
The public comment is at the end of the meeting again?
The minutes for the executive sessions will be approved, do they ever post those?

Just the limited all day K already proposed or all day K for everyone?
I didn't think there was room for all day K for everyone.

Is there any reason to believe students who have all day kindergarteen do any better in the long run? I doubt it. I don't see the point.

All day K for all starting in 2008. I'm curious to hear how we could possibly have the classroom space, staff, and money for this. I also wonder how big of kindergarten classes we would have considering many of those going to private K for the reason of needing all day childcare, would now be in the public schools.

I can't quote any studies, but I have to think that all-day K makes a huge difference. It's a critical time in learning, and would seem to me to be the great equalizer for some kids that don't start off so well due to challenge at home.

Haven't read much on it but I do remember the PA head talking to us after my oldest was taken in in 1st grade at a parent meeting once and explaining that the kids that came into K reading and way ahead of some others in math etc- that it all usually evened out by 2nd or 3rd grade - and then kids found there level of competence anyway. I never much bought into that but I figured she likely had stats to back it up too --
