Hmmm....very interesting. All I can wonder is how much this is going to cost us? From Mr. Stott's account of the way this was handled by athletic director, Mr. Schweer, I think the district is in trouble. Maybe one of the lawyers on our board here can add their comments but I think the district crossed the line. It appears though that they tried everything possible to accommodate the teacher/coach's schedule. It is only when the AD opened his mouth that the district got itself in trouble. It must be very challenging trying to work around a long term grand jury schedule. Wow! Lastly, I couldn't help but roll my eyes when I read Mr. Stott's email. I kept shaking my head and thinking "this guy works in the education field?" Granted it was in an email and sometimes grammar and punctuation go out the window but seriously he can't spell dedicated or responsibility? He doesn't know that "Tuesday" starts with a capital, that "I" as a pronoun is always capitalized, and that "Jury duty" is not a capital noun . Sorry but that's a pet peeve of mine. If you work in the education field there's no excuse for punctuation and spelling errors regardless of whether it's in an email or not.

You would think in a professional environment like a School District policy would alert everyone that you do not interfere with jury duty. It is a very serious matter for the courts. Policy should be such that anyone being notified of jury duty should in turn notify HR for special handling. Everything should then be coordinated through that office. If the AD had issues, he should have taken it to HR, period. You would think with an attorney on the Board for 10+ years and outside counsel that policies would have been reviewed for weaknesses. Ad hoc 204 never disappoints.

Agreed, anything related to jury duty is handled by HR. Managers should avoid it like a third rail.
That said this is a very one-sided account, and it appears damage repair was immediately deployed. From there on out I think it will be a he said/she said without huge ramifications. That said, I wouldn't wanna be Mr. Schweer, he's in for a whole bag of suck.

The line forms at the left for law suits in 204.....they just continue to mount..
I remember flying to California in the early 80's to fill in for a co worker who was on a grand jury for 7 months..

Curious when the Sun and/or Daily Herald will be running this article? I would think it would at least warrant a quick article. The SD will get a slap on the wrist, learn a lesson, and have to pay something as they settle out of court - IMO.
As far as Jonathan Stott maybe he hasn't learned the lesson that you're never supposed to speak out against the SD ever? I wonder what the repercussions will be for him? Anyone know if he's a tenured teacher? I feel that he may have a rocky road ahead and I feel sorry for him however I think he did the right thing calling the AD and school out for the treatment he received.

Well, then I hope he's a good teacher because by the sound of things I don't think that they'd take the chance and lay him off. I just don't think that they'd do it for fear of ramifications.

I wonder if he'll dodge that bullet or not, given the circumstances. Honestly though, it's not the teachers with less experience who are lop-siding the payroll...
