District 204 passes the buck www.suburbanchicagonews.com/napervillesun/news/opinions/2084339,6_4_NA05_LETTERS_S1-100305.article As I read the story of the district's shortage in funds caused by the state's late payments, I wonder who is the supreme intellect at the district who believes these messages to the public are going to make a difference? Are these notices or advertisements the only important issue? Shouldn't all taxpayer issues be running on the electronic banners at each school which involve our taxpaying citizens? Such as "We, the school district of 204, have decided to give ourselves a raise in these troubled economic times. Thanks, taxpayers." Next time, don't build a new giant high school and pay untold legal costs to acquire land you never had in the first place, and don't give yourself a raise when every other working stiff in the state wants a job or is just lucky to have one. Cry me a river, District 204. You, like every other public entity, has fed from the trough too long. The only one suffering now will be our children, who will see activity cuts to make up for your poor spending habits. Paul Marshalek Naperville

I couldn't agree more! I'm glad there are others in the community that are waking up and saying "we have had enough of the nonsense of 204 and their spending". I do not know the author but I believe he lives in the Neuqua attendance area. What, you mean there's someone at Neuqua who is not happy with our SD . The SB needs to realize that this is not just a few unhappy disgruntled community members. Oh no, the numbers are growing everyday. People have finally had enough. I look for change in the next SB elections. We need persons with clear financial experience. No more cheerleading around here. Hey, just wondering if by some slim chance (and I do mean SLIM) Dawn D were to win a Congress seat and need to give up her school board seat, would it be an election or a hand-selected person to replace her?

I have been wondering if she is going to give up her seat before the election. It seems to me that would be the right thing to do so since her political career is obviously more important. I don't believe it is right when she loses she can just 'come back'. But then she is a politician at heart and is in my opinion just as deceitful as some of our current SB members. As for todays LTE the writer states what many of us are thinking. I am glad it is finally in print.

The letter writer hit the nail on the head. Glad it got printed.
However, the District still believes the community has an unlimited supply of money to hand to them and they continue to believe they can manipulate the public.
They may find out they are wrong on both points.

Great LTE, sums up my feelings. I wouldn't worry too much about DeSart getting a seat - she a liberal democrat in this area trying to take out well liked encumbent republican. Her only experience is as a traffic lady and now a few months as a school board member where she flopped on her issues when getting elected. Then again I've seen crazier election results in recent history, which is how we wound up with our current school board.

I am in the same boat as anyone else in the district. However if anyone is passing the buck here then it is the taxpayers.
Let's not forget that we had two referenda put in front of us.
We said NO to an outright purchase of the BB land at a fairly decent price and then we said YES to an expensive condemnation process.

There was NO need and the SB and SD knew it. THEY then hired a consultant paid to pass ref's (not judge the validity of the ref) - and they concocted the lines of bullshit we were all fed ( 10400 students , 11000+ students, split shifts, loss of activities, CFO is the anti-Christ etc.)- then played areas against each other to where people lot focus on the need- and instead were played against each other for a desired outcome so no, I do not blame the voters in entirety- they were hoodwinked, plain and simple... for whatever reason ( North gets'their Neuqua' / legacies for some long standing SB memebrs / ability to eventrually close WVHS /or whatever).

Our SB had time to see that our enrollment numbers were in fact decreasing and could see that they economy was not imroving after the price of the BB game in. They had time to stop and think things over, but instead dug this school district into a hole. I vote no to both refs. and will continue to vote no to future refs.

from the looks of the green board as well as in a local paper, I think they are wellinto grooming a replacement - PTA
- Apologetic slant of writing regarding district issues
- Media vehicle for disseminating the party line
Someone's probably waiting with baited breath at the HCC for that criteria.

The numbers were always right in front of us. I verified the school board enrollments with state records and there was no doubt that land was platted out for housing development in Naperville and Aurora. We built Metea and the high schools are still too crowded.

Agreed, Dr. Who. I did everything I could to get others to believe me. I encouraged a no vote for both referenda. The first time I said no because they didn't know the school location (I kept asking what was plan B since they didn't own the property yet nor know the cost) and the second time was no because it was clear that the enrollment wasn't what they said and it was more clear that they didn't know the location or cost of the property (remember how easy QT was supposed to be?). Unfortunately no one believed me and I was definitely labeled by some as not supporting the kids . I can perfectly remember going to a large meeting at the NV Gold campus and standing in a large group (right next to AT) and firing my questions at the SB members at a "townhall meeting". Yeah, that was real successful. I wish I could have gotten more people to believe me. I want to remind people that I have not always been distrustful of the SB/SD. Heck, at one time I even manned phones at the bank to encourage others to support a referendum. Seems so long ago that I was snowballed into believing our SB.
