Alright, now this is ridiculous! My WV daughter just came home today with new bus route information. According to the sheet that was handed they will be adding MORE kids to her already packed bus. They are adding two NEW stops and will be now picking kids up in the TG neighborhood sarting at 6:29!!! That is one hour before school evens starts! I do not understand how they think this is acceptable! According to the information sent with my kid they will be at Waubonsie at 6:50 in the morning. As it stands now my daughter claims hers is the first bus there in the morning every single day. Now they've moved the time up 7 minutes? I don't get it. Why in the world do they need to be at Waubonsie 35+ minutes before school starts anyway . Do they not understand how important sleep is to these kids. Something's gotta change. I will be contacting Lil Miss Karla Z to discuss but I'm curious did anyone else have bus time changes? Maybe this is a new cost savings .

Looks like our crack "Director of Bridge/Bus Lady Services" is at it again.
We should give her a nice raise.

My Still 7th grader just came home with the new schedule. Two new stops have been added. Why would they be changing at this stage of the game? Maybe Karla needed something to do.

They are adding two NEW stops and will be now picking kids up in the TG neighborhood sarting at 6:29!!! Maybe they were worried that the TG kids couldn't handle the sunlight and with daylight savings time coming up wanted to put them back in the dark? ETA: sorry to poke fun at a crazy situation casey, but it drives it home. With DST, these kids will be back in the dark until the second week of April: www.sunrisesunset.com/calendar.asp?comb_city_info=Chicago,%20Illinois;87.6;41.9;-6;1&month=3&year=2010&time_type=0

Oh my! I didn't even think about that one. My daughter will just LOVE that one. She's already throwing a fit. Oh and for the record, my NV daughter leaves at 7:15. That's an extra 45 minutes that one kid has over the other due to crazy commute times. I'm going to let next week start, see how it goes, and then contact the director of bridge/bus lady services. It's crazy to have the kids at school 40 minutes early. Interesting you say that about the dark but at Waubonsie it's often dark. My daughter has only one class, 2nd period, in which there's a window and she can actually see the light. The rest of the day it's like a cave. That being said, she's still going to pick Waubonsie over Neuqua. She's happy but there are things she doesn't like (now add the new bus schedule to that list).

Perhaps they are re-tasking the same busses for another HS run... Pick up early, drop the kids off, go back out and get more HS kids...
...while cutting the original busses that used to do those (now 2nd run) routes.

Another thing that might come of it... It conditions kids to get used to the early pickup times in case their bus ever eventually has to take them up to MVHS in the future....

Anyone know what the number of students is that legally can be on a regulation school bus? According to the bus information there are 67 kids on my daughter's route. That's a heck of a lot of kids, backpacks, coats, etc. My daughter said that the bus pulls up to one of the last stops and picks up 16 kids (verified by the info that came today) and she said there's not much room for the last 5 to even fit on the bus. Now they've added 2 additional stops? We're over halfway done with the school year and they're making changes? It's just not right. These kids have taken more than one for the team and I'm sick of it.

44 to 56 is the norm for middle or high school students used in many districts in the US (2 to a seat, 11-14 rows depending on the specific bus design). ES students can do 3 to a seat due to their smaller size and having less 'stuff' to carry then their older counterparts. Find out how many rows there are on the bus and just multiply by 4 (2 kids per seat, 2 seats on either side). I notice in the past decade the district started using 80% of 80% as 'optimal capacity' for school capacity but doesn't mind operating busses well above 'optimal capacity' for transporting the kids. winsome.cnchost.com/204/SBMEET/200804014-JC-capacity-best-interest.wmv
