Start shining your apples now. The state's biggest PTA meeting will be coming to Naperville this weekend.
Illinois PTA members will join delegates from throughout the state at Illinois PTA's 108th annual State Convention on Friday through Sunday at the Holiday Inn Select, 1801 N. Naper Blvd.
The convention, dubbed "Ensuring Every Child's Future by Engaging Each Child's Community," will feature a host of keynote speakers and honorees, including Attorney General Lisa Madigan, who will be honored with Illinois PTA's inaugural "Child Advocate of the Year" award.
The Illinois PTA will be awarding Madigan, who will speak at the convention's award dinner 6 p.m. Friday night, for her work in protecting children from online dangers through her Internet Safety Education program. Madigan also previously taught and advocated for children developing after-school programs to help keep kids engaged in education and away from drugs and gangs.
Other speakers will include Kevin Rutter, Illinois Teacher of the Year, and Illinois State Superintendent Christopher Koch.
