MVHS pesticide spraying next week ?

Is this really the type of thing that can't wait 1 week until the kids are not there ? Why risk any exposure.....and just being told it is safe is no longer enough...

unnecessary exposure for the kids, possible overspray on cars- - why the rush for 1 week ?

Public Acts 91-0099 and 91-0525 mandate Integrated Pest Management (IPM) for Illinois public schools. IPM manages pest damage with the least possible hazard to people, property and the environment; including judicious use of pesticides. In this context, “pesticide” includes insecticide, herbicide, rodenticide, and fungicide.



IPM provides parents/guardians or staff members with prior notice of herbicide application. As you have requested, please be aware that on May 25th and May 26th, weather permitting, a weed control application will be applied to the sidewalk, driveway, and parking lot of Metea Valley High School. We match herbicide and application procedures to our school environment. All are approved for school use, and are an important part of buildings and grounds maintenance. Typically, this application will not present a health concern to students or staff. However, it is the intent of IPM to allow those with special sensitivity to take appropriate precautions: in the case of children, as determined by a parent or guardian.

Seriously... Why and how would weeds be growing on new concrete/asphalt?

Spray after school on a Friday so there are multiple days before students and staff return. Better still, wait until school is out.

Agree 100%. This just seems like an obvious lack of common sense as to the timing, and questionable need with respect to the newness of the surfaces.

FYI-- the date has been moved until June 1.....common sense has prevailed

( thanks to the dilgence of one crusader -- a lesson to continue to speak up when things are not right -- sometimes it can make a difference )
