Indian Prairie Unit District 204 announced two administrative moves Monday, adding a principal to the elementary ranks and losing a middle school principal.
Claudette Walton, currently the part-time assistant principal at Fry Elementary School and part-time human resources director specializing in teacher recruitment and retention, will replace Quynh Harvey as principal at Cowlishaw Elementary on July 1. Crone Middle School Principal Stan Gorbatkin will begin his new role as director of technology services.Walton was unavailable Monday but a statement released by the district said she has a master's degree in elementary education and educational leadership and is pursuing a doctorate in educational administration from National Louis University.
An educator for 19 years, she taught first, second and third grades at Wheaton Warrenville Unit District 200 and then served as the district's director of human resources before joining District 204.
Crone Middle School Principal Stan Gorbatkin, meanwhile was named the district's new director of technology services.
Gorbatkin is a 22-year district veteran, most recently as principal of Crone Middle School. As assistant principal at Crone, he coordinated the move to the school's new location. He previously served as assistant principal at Still Middle School and band director at Hill Middle School. An educator for 26 years, he has a master's degree from VanderCook College of Music in Chicago.
In his new role, Gorbatkin will be responsible for implementing and managing a long-range technology plan for the school district. He also will provide support and consultation to district and building administration on planning and implementing curriculum with integrated technology.
"It has been an honor to serve the District 204 community as both a teacher and building administrator during the course of the past 22 years," Gorbatkin said. "Looking ahead, I'm excited to work closer with the outstanding district-level leadership to help in best meeting the needs of our students, staff and community as a whole."
The board of education is expected to approve both appointments at its July 19 meeting.
