Any idea why he would leave for a lateral ? Crone is very fortunate, this is a member of 204 that really does work hard and puts the extra effort in. okay I'll start the rumor now - in order to justify Metea valley ( who will be 800 kid short of capacity next year) - they will close the oldest MS- Hill and put all the kids in the new Middle School wing. p.s. Hill may want to invest in a newer version of spellcheck that includes the word announcement - [HILL-DAILY] annoucementFrom: "Sabathne, Diane" <diane_sabathne@IPSD.ORG>Add to Contacts To: HILL-DAILY@LISTSERV.IPSD.ORG ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ From: Davenport, Allan Sent: Monday, July 12, 2010 10:19 AM To: Sabathne, Diane Subject: list serv annou. Dear Hill Community, I wanted to inform you all that I have accepted the position of Principal at Crone Middle School for the 2010-2011 school year. I have really enjoyed my 6 years at Hill Middle School and have learned a great deal from the students, staff and parents of this community. It is not easy to leave, but I am looking forward to the new challenges and opportunities that will come my way. Thank you all for your support over the years, I have been lucky to have been a part of this community and school. Sincerely, Allan Davenport

Now I'm getting really ridiculous but I have major issue when administrators/educators mess up on spelling, punctuation, grammar, etc. Can't help but notice a few errors.....geez. Hey, at least there's no dangling participles or ending sentences with a preposition (two of my favorites). LOL. I wanted to inform you all that I have accepted the position of principal (not capital as it is not used as a proper noun here!) at Crone Middle School for the 2010-2011 school year. I have really enjoyed my 6 (should be spelled out as s-i-x) years at Hill Middle School and have learned a great deal from the students, staff , and (should be a comma after staff as a list of more than two items requires commas between them) parents of this community. It is not easy to leave, but I am looking forward to the new challenges and opportunities that will come my way. Thank you all for your support over the years, (should be a period as it is the end of a sentence) I have been lucky to have been a part of this community and school.

Casey, I noticed the same three things. These, seemingly inconsequential, mistakes are quite common in 204. The same careless attitude toward grammar and punctuation trickles down to the students. I'm certain many won't notice, but our family always notices these things -- and we hold the educators to a higher standard. It's just another example of why I think our "highly rated" schools are just mediocre.

You are right Sam. Some may view grammar errors as a minor problem but it truly is reflective of a much bigger problem. I hate to admit but every time I see any communication come from 204 (whether it be newsletters or just generic communication) I can't help but notice the errors (exception Bob McBride at Neuqua). Blame it on the administrative assistants, blame it on spell/grammar check, blame it on whoever you want but bottom-line it shouldn't be happening. Isn't there a way that they can check and then re-check their work for errors? Hey, I just came up with another new position! Director of grammar/punctuation for the district. Seriously though, there's no excuse for communication to continuously go out with grammar/punctuation errors. It's sloppy business. Perhaps it was all my days in Catholic education and all the time we spent diagramming sentences or perhaps it was my days writing and editing copy in the advertising world or my days teaching grammar to my own students, but I've always been a stickler for correct grammar.

Casey, you have an obsession for detail, which I aspire too! (intentional error included for affect ;D )

I caught it, Eagle Dad. I liked the dangling participle and the incorrect use of a homonym. Nice. You're right though about my obsession to detail, just ask my kids (not children - get it? ). I hope they're not screwed up for life as a result.

.......fly by................ Casey, I'd argue if ED ruffled you're feathers, it was actually a correct use of the homonym I don't see the dangling participle. FWIW, my initial read on this announcement was that it was a promotion, despite appearing as a lateral move on the org chart. Why else leave? Three years isn't that long to be principal at one school, is it?
