I got my freshmans schedule today from WVHS. His lunch is third period...at 9:18 AM. What the ****? I thought when we built a third high school, everything was supposed to be more reasonable!!! Lunch at 9:18AM?!! I hope Christine Marchwhatever takes her lunch at 9:18AM and then performs her very best at work the rest of the day. Sharing lockers, ridiculous lunch hours, kids at two different high schools. What can I say? I LOVE this district

I am sorry, but a 9:18 AM lunch is absolutely unacceptable.
This is complete garbage.

My freshman's lunch is 7th period at 12:46. Thank goodness she can carry a backpack and throw some snacks in there.

My eldest had the early one once... We called it "2nd Breakfast" and most days he wanted to have a bagel or cereal to eat during it.

But I just heard that WVs enrollment for fall is under 3000. I know this is not official, but, hey how many does the WV cafeteria hold? SIX? Do they really have to have five lunch periods to accomodate the kids? Especially when many of them use the time to go to the LMC and get homework done. Or is this some kind of crazy 204 tradition of making sure kids do not perform optimally in class? "Let's make the little ones pass out from heat and the older ones pass out from hunger"

Rew: The letter that was with the schedule stated enrollment was at 2,900 something or so (But my daughter did say 3 of her friends didn't get schedules and upon further review found out the parents hadn't registered yet!) Mathematically, for 3,000 kid and 6 lunch periods, you are feeding 500 kids a period. Can they do 600? Not sure. I am aware a lot of kids don't eat due to option (do they go all day without eating??) I guess if those kids can go all day yours can eat at 9:15. Honestly, I know my freshman needs to get the bus at 6:40am. She would be (and will be) starving by 9:15. She doesn't eat till late... just like elemenatary school, there is no perfect time but I don't see if being that big a deal.
Anyone around the years after Neuqua opened? Did WVHS ever get rid of the 9:15 am lunch? How many years did they go without it before it was re-instituted? Just curious. WVHS had not been overcrowded since Neuqua opened.
Are kids (frosh) sharing lockers at WVHS this year? I don't think so unless they coulnd't pick their buddy. The locker and combo wa on the schedule....but kids at Gregory share lockers and no one ever comments about that?

incognito, this is not a complaint about WVHS, this is a complaint I have about the district. With a seventh MS, there should not be overcrowding/locker sharing going on at Gregory and with excess capacity at the ES level there should not be portables at Young.

I know nothing about Gregory and why they share lockers. I don't beleive kids at Hill share and I though the lay out was similar. I completely agree about Young portables. Unlike early lunch and locker sharing the portables are a flat out waste of money. There are over 4,000 empty seats in elementary schools in 204 and we are paying for portables.
I was just curious if WVHS ever got rid of 9:15 lunch. Folks have "assumed" all sorts of things would change with a 3rd high school and no one (Howie) ever said anything would change.....a less lunch period. smaller classe sizes, etc.
I think Gregory folks USED to be on this board...but maybe I'm confused.

Are you really trying to rationalize lunch at 9:15AM? really? seriously? am I in an alternate plane of reality here? I'll stick by my words - a 9:15 lunch is ridiculous. I guess if there is one kid who decides ti go all day without eating then that should be the standard for everyone? I also am curious as to what lockers have do do with eating. Do kids eat in their lockers now?

Yes there were a LOT of people on this board -- however after some areas dodged a bullet and got what they wanted- many ( not all ) went back to sticking their head in the sand re: 204.

I thought everywhere was overcrowded which is why we built the $150M Neuqua North - now I read WVHS wasn't overcrowded. Well no crap.

No one said anything would change ? Really ? So all that blustering about how kids were so overcrowded they could not learn...and didn;t have good opportunities because of the size of the schools..or the spectre of split shifts ( which was supposed to happen 2 years before MVHS even opened) - which was to be eradicated by MVHS. Now finally more are seeing it for what it is- a private tribute to those who 'paid for all of us '- and a colossal waste of tax monies... I'm in Florida last week and see Durbin on the Senate floor whining about how 'poor Neuqua Valley' may lose their grammy winning music program because we need to pass more monies to pay teachers. Yes, on CSPAN....unreal... I'd love to stand up there and ask him to justify the $150 pissed away by 204 on an unneeded school- but they likely would cut away to another topic.. also my daughter is hearing from many of her MVHS friends that their schedules are screwed up -- going to get more details but did they not offer some classes kids expected ?

What classes weren't offered? If there weren't enough students signed up, then obviously they might not offer that class.

That is the truth. AT protects their interests so why should they worry? Also remember that area voted CP number #1 during the last election. Says alot.
