FROM MV(from greenblog) Good Morning – a few updates about the beginning of school on Tuesday, 8/24/10 – what a great opportunity for us to reconnect with our Mustang community! 1. I sent a connect ed message last evening to remind families that all Wednesdays have a professional development component to them. All high school students will be dismissed at 2:05 rather than the usual 2:25 dismissal. The Commons and the Library will be available for students who wish to remain at school until their extra-curricular activity begins at 3:15. 2. We are implementing a “Raptor System” where visitors provide an ID for entrance and receive a visitor badge. Similar to last year, all visitors should register at Door #1 – the Administration entrance by the flag pole. Students are expected to carry their MVHS ID with them at all times. 3. On 8/24, students should report to their alphabetically assigned homeroom to pick up their schedule, their ID, student handbook, and other essential items. Locker combinations and passwords will be reprinted on the schedule they receive in homeroom; they were also printed on the schedule they received in August. Homeroom assignments will be posted on our web page early next week. 4. Due to district austerity efforts, there will be no towel service at any of the three high schools. Students will need to bring their own towel for PE or after school activities. Towels can be kept in PE/athletic lockers. 5. Please be aware of our additional student drivers for the upcoming year! Drop off and parking directions are posted to expedite traffic on school grounds. Sorry, we have no control over the Eola Road traffic. See your House secretary for parking sticker information.I wish you and your family the very best in the upcoming school year! As we all know, it takes a village to raise a child! Go go Mustangs! ----------------------------- at least they're apologizing in advance

Does anyone know the incoming number of freshmen students expected at MV? I have been told that Waubonsie will be 773 which seems quite high. What's the deal? I think NV is well over 1000. What is the number at Metea? I think more boundary changes are necessary.

What is the number at Metea? I think more boundary changes are necessary. well you know we needed that high school to handle the whopping number of kids t here-- and they have convinced Justin @ the Herald that there will be 3000 kids there..instead of the 2300 we all know that number will be.. NEXT year I don't have the opening day #'s - YET.. but consider this: Hill 8th grade 5/28/10 = 310 Granger 254 -------------------------------------- 564 Owen West ? Owen total per grade runs approx 100. If split evenly thats 50 more still 150 or a whole other ES worth less than going to WVHS-- I say move Springbrook and let Alka explain that bus ride to her neighbors. And oh yeah, that's assuming 100% of the kids are going to MVHS...which of course is not true-- I know 5 for sure going to Benet..so coupled with people moving lets assume 95% go there ( and that's likely high) - that's 540 or so plus Owen West. I think we I think it's time to reward Owen East with a nice little bus ride to the northern reaches. This will continue as even at 9 miles away they cannot come close to 70% occupancy at this school- nice placement - idiots !

I heard an assistant principal at WV state that there are @660 freshman at WV this year. He was told that Marchiando said there were 775 - he flat out said she was wrong!!!! Hmmmmm - is there dissention in the ranks? Of course, WV now has mold on it's auditorium floor - Jackpot for the SB!!!!! Reason to start looking at closing the building - can't have the children in an unsafe environment. Your timetable for going back to 2 schools just got another year or 2 cut off of it!!! Hope mine make it through before then.

OK so what's the deal? How many freshmen are going to be at Waubonsie? Is it 775 or 660 (big difference)? Wouldn't you think the principal would have the correct number? I'm surprised to hear an assistant principal is saying differently. However, nothing would surprise me. Yes, moving AT's Springbrook gang to Waubonsie would definitely make things interesting but I'll be honest, I don't want that to happen. I'm quite happy with the way WV is right now thank you very much. That being said, I think that our HS boundaries/population is a complete mess. Neuqua is still very crowded, Waubonsie crowded for the facility space available, and our new flagship $150M high school is still VERY underutilized. We all know the reason is because they chose such an ignorant location for that high school and that's ultimately the whole problem. IMO they have to move more kids out of Neuqua and more kids out of Waubonsie. Metea has to increase its numbers and there's no iffs ands or buts about it. The mold thing in the auditorium doesn't really bother me that much. Do I like it? Of course not but I applaud the WV staff for at least putting the information out there rather than hiding it under the rug (poor pun intended ). I hope they can get the clean up and renovation completed quickly.

Couldn't agree more Casey. It is becoming more and more apparent as time goes by why the northern location of MV is a complete mess!!!!

Doc, have you considered some anger mgt. classes, holding onto this type of anger can be harmful to one's health! Based on the statements below I am concerned for your overall health... How is your blood pressure?

Of course I don't really wish this upon Owen East ( unless a certain ex SB member would have to ride that bus)- or anyone else-- it's to show the lunacy of what has happened here. To get to the attendance they claimed for MV- they would have to bus Owen East and Springbrook also - and still be short 1700 kids for 3 grades- 2200 max next year - for $150M ! And people bought the bullshit about the schools bursting at the seams ? Not to mention for the 4th years in a row ES attendance will drop 2-3% more... if you want to worry about blood pressure- do so for the people who live by Waubonsie, who will see it shut in 5 years or so - ( and the 2-3 ES's that will do the same) - and for those taxpayers still here after 2014.... I will not be one of those. They will need your good wishes... there's a difference between misplaced anger that doesn't subside, and the ability to speak freely about the screw job the taxpayers/parents/kids took in this district all for the sake of giving one group a neighborhood Taj Mahal...I vow to never stop speaking about that and to date, challenge anyone to show me where any facts I have stated - well before released- including attendance and cost of the new school- were incorrect.

I agree casey - don't move Springbrook to WVHS -- move them to MVHS then have their SB member explain to them like they did to me- that the ride 'isn't THAT bad
