Senior Kaitlyn King school's fourth player to commit to D-I college
August 17, 2010By NEIL SHALIN For Sun-Times Media
White TextSenior setter Kaitlyn King, who gave her verbal commitment to Maryland, is the latest of four Benet girls volleyball players who recently declared for Division I colleges.
That brings the number to six members of the 2010 Redwings who have made their decision about college, and three of those are still juniors in high school.
Benet's commitments

"I absolutely love everything about Maryland especially the direction the volleyball program is going, the coaches and the Comcast Center," King said.
King was a starting setter on last year's 35-5 Benet team.
"When I visited, I knew immediately that this is where I wanted to be," King said.
"Kaitlyn has a unique confidence about her that makes players around her better," Benet coach Brad Baker said. "Her game is not flashy, but like all great setters, she delivers a very hittable ball. Maryland is getting a great person who will find a way to impact their program in a positive manner."
Other recent verbals were given by senior outside hitter Alyson Farm, who announced she will be attending George Mason and a pair of juniors, setter/opposite Jenna Jendryk to Virginia Tech and middle hitter Gabby Pethokoukis to Villanova.
The four join earlier commitments by senior outside hitter Lara Ontko, who will matriculate at Mississippi and junior middle hitter Meghan Haggerty, who decided on Wisconsin
In addition, 13 other Benet graduates are currently playing volleyball at the next level, including Ariana Mankus, who was an All-American last year as a freshman at West Point.
Benet, which finished second in state in 2008 and went to the final eight last year, has become key destination for Division I recruiters."
Baker, who had high praise for all six girls who have made their college decision, believes that this year's team will again challenge for state honors.
"It doesn't surprise me that our girls have been sought by these great universities," Baker said. "They're all outstanding athletes. And the success they've achieved in both club and high school, combined with their outstanding work ethic, character and academic records, make each one all a college coach's dream."
