OK, I know this is a little thing in the grand scheme of things - but with the thread on using the stimulus monies to continue to pay for the HS we didn't need- that now has surpassed $150M just as many here said it would...and I know those with children here have been hit with much higher fees...etc.
yesterday I attended the Benet - Neuqua volleyball game @ Neuqua Valley. I have been to 14 other locations this year for matches and tournaments, including other Upstate Eight schools. The entry fee has been $3 at many, and $4 at a few - usually including a program. Yesterday was the first $5 entry fee I encountered.
Can those of you who attend other sports in 204 verify that it is $5 for all 204 events now ? Have you paid $5 anywhere else in your travels ?
The difference between $3 and $5 ain't gonna pay the operating expenses on the additional school- yet I know they are trying desparately to not have to put a referendum up before the 3 incumbents run for re-election in April. Can they really hold out until next November before they put that ill-fated referendum out there ? Can they stay 'creative' while funneling funds there and of course not telling anyone ?

Agreed, dr. who. I think the $5 fee seems a little steep. We have never paid more than $3-4 at any other school this year. For the record, they almost never charged last year to go to the swim/dive meets (they charged at some NV ones but never WV) so $5 is a huge jump. I bought the booster activity pass so I never really feel like I'm paying out of pocket but I do think $5 is high and have heard plenty of parents complaining about it.
That being said, I do somewhat believe in the pay to play mentality and don't mind admission gate fees. My problem that I have though is they pay a 204 employee to sit at every event to collect money (what do they have to pay that person?). Why can't the district just have a volunteer collect the money (are they concerned a parent is going to steal money out of the coffers?). Sometimes at swim meets I don't even think the gate collection covers the cost of the 204 employee sitting there. That to me seems really a dumb waste of time and money.

I get pay to play - but as a visitor here now, just noticed them being more expensive than anywhere else I visited. Yes I had to go to the office at Neuqua to pay- as opposed to usually a team Mom or somone sits at the entrance of other schools..

I have noticed that the fees for athletics at Neuqua are strictly enforced and higher than the same sporting events elsewhere. There are at least 2 Neuqua employees who guard the entrance to the pool for every event. They are frequently rude. In order to go to the bathroom, you must show your ticket stub or stamp - it's very strict and unfriendly.
At other schools, if there is a fee, it looks to be run by parents. I have overheard parents from North and Central make comments about it. It is really kind of embarrassing.
I don't like the attitude and I feel like we're being nickled and dimed.
It's interesting that this attitude does not exist at Benet. An entrance fee isn't even collected for some events.

Waubonsie ticket takers are all staff members as well. The District gets the money, not the teams or the booster clubs. I don't see any parent volunteering to collect money for the District!
I think there as an attempt this year to streamline fees between NV and WV (that's what happens when NV parents start atttending WV events and start noticing the differences). I do believe WV collected for swim meets this fall...but I could be wrong. And, just becasue they said they would, doesn't mean they did.
I was actully surprised to find out a couple summers ago that Neuqua charges a small fortune for their summer camps. Weight lifting was mroe than double what WV pays, high school football and basketball camps were also much much higher than WV. The summer stipends at Neuqua must be huge and they have to cover the costs? That money surely goes no where near MV!

Where does the money go? How is it accounted for? And do they charge the same amounts for the same events at each school? I would like to know, but I bet we'll never find out!

Casey: This is WVHS athletics home page: wvhs.ipsd.org/Subpage.aspx?id=141It states $5 adults and $3 student for the various sports. Swimming is not listed, but I did think they were going to collect this year. I haven't looked at a 204 budget, but I would guess there is a budget line item in revenue called "ticket sales". That is where the money would go. I don't think it stays with the school - but that's a reasonable person saying this - I don't know for sure.

With the state not paying (I haven't heard lately if they are caught up or not), 204 puts on a lot of programs that are state funded- ADK for one. preschool and I'm sure special needs. We still have all these programs but no funding for them. I am going to guess the other publics don't fund as many state funded programs as 204. 204 is scrambling for money....I think we all know there is excess spending but they are choosing to up fees more and more more.
FYI: Lake Park has been $5 fee forever. WVHS has played football there the past 4 years (which I don't even understand) and I remember thinking the admissions were high back then.
