I was hoping to get others opinions on this to see if I am the only one feeling this way.
I am starting to form an opinion that the telephone contact system is being used far too much in the district. My family receives a call from the district almost every day of the week now from "PUBLIC SCHOOLS", often during dinner hour. Last night we got a call from the Still MS Gym teacher about some 5K fun run (frankly I couldn't care less). I think over-use of this system for every little cause and fundraiser should be avoided. It is turning into telephone spam due to overuse. I'm sure all of these causes/announcements are good, and important to the people that are driving them, but do I really need my phone ringing all of the time for the latest bake sale?
Is there any way I can customize this system or opt out altogether? I'd like to know if I can (maybe it's an option somewhere).
Am I alone in this, or is anyone else starting to notice this being used more and more.

Sure enough, 7:03 tonight, got a call about ISAT's from the Still vice principal, letting me know the ever informative "we sent a letter home with your child".

Yes, and WV got an e-mail and a phone call saying deliveries to students on Valentines' Day would not be delivered. Who would ever send something to their kid at school on Valentine's Day??? Talk about something that shoulnd't even be an issue. I totally agree on the overuse. My husband gets cell calls about music cancellations and we don't even have a student in the music program. And, how about the MS dance procedures. Ugh.

Agreed. I've got three kids at three schools so my phone is always ringing with School District updates. In fact, those are about the only calls we ever get on our home phone everyone else uses our cell numbers. Let's see tonight I got the one about the ISAT testing and also one about an upcoming field trip and an in-school activity. Thank goodness for caller ID. The whole family is trained to just never pick up the phone when it is a school message.
I get the email updates too so I have to say I tend to tune it all out with message overload. It's gotten so bad that I don't even open the daily announcements every day. Heck, I could open them one a week and still know what's going on.
Also, a minor pet peeve but does anyone else get sick of hearing "as always Go Wildcats" or "Go Warriors". It gets somewhat annoying.

Ooops - posted this in the Fry thread first.
I think the phone calls should be limited to very serious matters (school closings, etc. - things that affect student safety)
If they are using the phone system for too many other things, people are going to ignore the calls and maybe miss something that was truly important.
And I think the "Go Wildcats" is not appropriate for these phone calls.
I have received very few automated calls (3 in 2 years) from Benet. They have been only weather related. The caller isn't the President or Principal - they just clearly say this is Benet Academy and state the message. And they don't say "Go Redwings!"

Only emergency changes result in calls..

Telemarketers don't call me this much.. I don't care about Market Day... I already got the 3 emails about it. Just now I had to be reminded for the 5th+ time about the drop-off policy if I were to bring something for my student. Come on, this is pathetic... it was in the emails a month ago and I do believe we already got a phone call about this before as well.
Quit abusing the system or I will put a call-block on your numbers.

Erase function on answering machine works wonders. Voice mail delete is not a bad call either. Take a deep breath relax.... All is good with the world.

Some may not be on the cutting edge such as yourself Arch. ...Probably why I didn't suggest other do it but rather simply stated that I'm going to do it. Though, from the looks of things I don't think I'm the only one (or we're the unique few) in the district who's sick of them calling Wolf.
