A gas line explosion early Thursday morning sent a huge fireball into the Minneapolis skyline. Despite the size of the fire, there were no known injuries, according to the AP. The area was being evacuated, but Assistant Fire Chief Cherie Penn told the AP the move was precautionary. CenterPoint Energy officials have been checking for leaks since the fire started. Though no one was injured the explosion did cause damage to the area, and has slowed traffic. From Minnesota Public Radio News: The fire forced Interstate 35W to close in both directions, and southbound I-35W remained closed. MnDOT spokesman Kevin Gutknecht said crews were inspecting a bridge near the scene of the fire at 60th Street and Nicollet Avenue. The explosion also forced four schools in the area to close as a precaution. The fire, which has been extinguished, started with a large explosion but the cause is still unknown, according to MPR.
