First off thank you to everyone who voted today - I wish more people would lose their apathy and do so.
Congratulations to Mark Rising, who overcame a concerted effort to discredit the facts he presented in the campaign..for staying on target delivering solid facts and inquiries and above all being honest. The IPSD 204 SB is one step closer to not being the rubber stamp process it has been for so long. Would love to see the day when each SB member questions all aspects of how we run this multi-million dollar business..seeking to do what's best for the kids in 204 as well as what's best for ALL parents, ALL neighborhoods and taxpayers in 204 as well. Stewardship of the monies with which they are entrusted to spend in the best ways possible and only when the need is there.
SB meetings just became more interesting

I second the congratulations to Mark Rising. Despite attempts to undermine him and spread rumors, he stayed on his message which was one of fiscal responsibility while having a great educational system.
Agree, the SB meetings may not be the admin rubber stamp fest they have been, especially with the finance issues we have right around the corner. Additionally the SB will need a new vice president immediately (to replace Alka Tyle - I imagine the IASB will remove her soon as well), and I think it is time for a new SB president, as it is unhealthy to have any one SB member do that for too long.

Excellent! Getting Mark on the board and getting rid of Alka is the best thing that could have happened. I believe Mark and CV will be a cornerstone in changing this currently inept SB. As for LP I know she has been a strong advocate for the kids but her actions this election; joining the slate and smearing MR really soured me on her. I hope for the districts sake she doesn't tow the line. And on occasion DD has shown she doesn't agree with the SB all of the time. I am excited about the very strong possibility of real change. Marks win is a win for all of us.

I haven't been to a SB meeting in quite awhile but it might be worth it to see MM and AT leave. Those two have supported many destructive decisions the past few years. One thing that is puzzling as Doc brought up is the continued apathy. The far south where Tillotson is from just has not voted the past several elections. I guess because they were left at NV they didn't consider it important. Shame on them. One other interesting thing is the makeup of the SB now in their residency.
Bradshaw- MV Rasmus- MV Piehl- MV Price- MV Rising MV DeSart- NV Vickers- WV
It just shows who votes and who doesn't. The South needs to realize the district is theirs too.

Our SB looks more like a PTA group than a school board. It's embarrassing that so few people make the effort to vote.

I think if the election were held after tax bills come out (April 29), you would see a lot more participation.

I think they purposefully hold onto the actual bills (we get the valuations in like November) just for that purpose so all the local officials dont get hammered during the local elections when all the spotlight is on them with no state/national stuff going on. It would be interesting to see the participation and activity rate if the property tax bills were mailed out around January for the current year

gee - all it takes is building a $150M high schoiol we don't need to get voters out in an area -- = circling the wagons around the shrine to Jeanette Clark... You know the other day I was musing though the archives and found myself reading the thread of the Orange shirt night when JC was crying making a complete ass out of herself trying to help her area instead of during what was best for the entire district. JC should have been reprimanded at the very least or someone should have asked for her resignation for her conduct. Yes she is a hero to her area.

Then again, someone should have asked for Mark Metzger's resignation for calling the parents of an afterschool rape victim "Motherfuckers" but they never did.
That to me, is inexcusable and remains unforgettable. At least he and his protégé will soon be gone forever.

That to me, is inexcusable and remains unforgettable. At least he and his protégé will soon be gone forever. Couldn't agree more, ED. He should have been gone immediately. Every one of the sitting board members should have called out for his resignation. It should have been made clear that a SB would not tolerate such extreme behavior. In addition, I think the IL and National SB should have expected/demanded his resignation. What would someone have to do to actually get kicked out of that? Oh yeah, that's right, MM was head of that board too. It should not have been only CB to sit there in his mammsy-pammsy way bringing it up. It should have been a censure at the very least. I lost a LOT of respect for all involved throughout that mess. I can't even imagine how the parents of the victim felt after being called MFs by a sitting SB president. Only in 204 .
