I am not saying farewell to District 204 yet, one more to go, but I am saying goodbye to NVHS. It hasn't all been good, but it hasn't all been bad. I hope for all the seniors, at both NV and WV, the best is yet to come. I will look forward to Bob McBride's comments. He carries himself well and makes good speeches. I will be glad not to have to listen to "grumpy old man" Dash again, although I can't say I'm much of a KB fan anymore. I will also not have to see AT or MM this year on the podium . I hope now that WVHS and MVHS will have smaller graduating class sizes, we can go back to having graduation at the schools and not have to struggle over tickets and hauling to COD.

Congratulations to yours and all kids graduating this year....and their parents too I would be remiss if I didn't say Congrats to my daughter too. No ceremony as she stands alone this year, but she's OK with that and chose it.

Just like you, rew, I am saying goodbye to NV. It is definitely with mixed emotions and as you said some has been good and some has been not so good. NV has its issues that's for sure but it was a great school for my daughter and helped prepare her well for college.
I will however be happy to be dealing with only one high school. Those who acted as if having kids at two high schools was no big deal, have NO IDEA. It has been challenging and definitely not an ideal situation. My family has made the best of it but it was not always easy. I still have a hard time understanding how the SB made the decision to split siblings. What a dumb and spiteful decision that was.
Some day after my WV kid graduates I would like to stand up at a SB meeting and spell out some of the problems that decision has caused for my family personally. There's no reason in the world that siblings could not have stayed together. MM and KB chose to split families IMO for one reason - to screw TG and WE. The thing is though, we've gotten the last laugh because my daughter has been so happy at Waubonsie. It has been an incredible experience for her.
Getting off track here as this thread is about graduation. Best of luck to all 2011 graduates. Hooray!

Baccalaureate at NVHS last night. Dr McBride gave an excellent commentary. He will be a superintendent someday, somewhere. He has that dynamic quality that makes people listen.
I am so glad that the district still observes a Baccalareate service. It is such a meaningful event, at the school, planned by students, dominated by student speakers, performers and favorite faculty, and recognizes the importance of what is taught/instilled at home - that which endures long after your grad has forgotten how to use calculus. It is a great opportunity to invite family that can't otherwise secure a ticket to graduation.

In reply to Casey...it makes you wonder how they will be able to continue to paint WE and TG as the evil "entitled" axis going forward or who will be their lightening rod next go around.

I'm prediciting whatever area is targeted for school closure will somehow be made out to be the bad guy ahead of time so no one feels sorry for them. I'm thinking we are a prime target when that day rolls around soon.

You know they'll be looking to close the HS and there will be parents such as myself hoping and begging that it stay open. We'll be made out to be the evil doers again. Wouldn't that be full circle? I am dead serious when I say I do not want my 6th grader to go to Neuqua. Waubonsie would be a much better school for my kid.

I'm guessing here but I'd say there were less than 300 total kids there. FWIW, I thought Mayor Pradel sounded foolish. First of all I didn't think he knew where any 204 schools were (I don't recall ever seeing him at a NV event before). I had a hard time understanding his minute and a half speech (and what was up with his yelling/cheering?). IMO he did not add anything meaningful to the night and was more of a distraction. All other speakers/performers were solemn and sincere and his presentation just seemed out of place. Also, couldn't help but wonder why they couldn't get a Catholic priest that spoke English (an interpreter was provided). I thought the other clergy persons did a great job as did Bob McBride, Mark Truckenbrod, and Casey Solgis (sp?). The choir and individual singers were unbelievable. All in all, a great night!

Like others said, not all good; not all bad. I will say the SB's bitter and spiteful decision to split siblings (coupled with the names we were called, etc. ) did lead us to a wonderful opportunity for the younger sibling at Benet. Good luck to all the 2011 graduates. I know they will go on to do great things.
