5 years ago we passed a $124MM referendum to build another high school. We We have spent $150 million dollars on it. Innumerable families have been split, relocated and disrupted. Today, my oldest daughter started at her new high school, WVHS. She ate her first lunch, as she will every day the rest of the full school year at 9:10 AM. So, someone remind me, why did we do all this again?

9:10 in the morning? Seriously? That is just so wrong. Waubonsie's attendance is down to less than 2800 why do we still have crazy lunch periods like that?
I wish our district had had the sense to stop like Oswego did. We will never need that third high school. Sadly, I give WV only a few more years. I can't wait to see the boundaries when that happens. It'll sure be crazy commutes for many.
Welcome to the WV family. Your daughter will love it.

'we' did it to cater to the whims of Jeanette Clark and Mark Metzger - putting ' their Neuqua' in place - everything else smoke and mirrors - and even when they were getting caught in the lies on projected attendance - capacity- school location - cost at each location etc.. they plowed forward leaving their legacy on IPSD204 one of a fractured school district - with long term anger / division and debt --

Again, not what I want, but what I believe has been the plan for the last at least 5 years from documents we have shown here demarkating the north HS and review of the topic of closing Waubsonie

Yes, 9:10 in the morning, every day, all year. I am having my first cup of coffee at work, while my daughter is eating lunch for the day. I suspect that it has far less to do with the real capacity of the lunchroom as a divisor of the actual enrollment numbers (as was conveniently used during referendum whoring), and more to do with the preferences of the cafeteria management and staff to spread their day out as much as possible. It was just another convenient truth used at the time to sell the lies. It's ridiculous, yes. Welcome to the WV family. Your daughter will love it. I am sure she will, she is very resilient and she is having a great time. Thanks for welcoming her!

I don't think the 9:15 lunch is that big of deal in the whole scope of life. I know parents/kids pack double lunch and the kids try to find time in early afternoon to eat the extra bagel, etc. I truly don't know why they do it other than the cafe is tiny and very claustrophobic. I don't know what 'safe' capacity' actually is in there.
I was really looking forward to this school year as families are no longer split and what's done is done. I have 5 more years at Waubonsie and I want them to be 5 great years for my kids. Parents can do a lot to help the kids have memorable years of high school. All WV parents need to come on board and do whatever it takes so their child is successful and has fun.
Crapping about 9:15 lunch times doesn't fit there. She'll be fine. Too bad EagleDad is not 1/2 resilient as his daughter. He should learn from her.

Part of ensuring that ones kids have a great time there does not include burying ones head in the sand to issues that can and should be easily corrected. Never did - even in the 'good ol' days' before all the other crap in this district. I was part of the Warrior famnily when NVHS opened, and making things better for our kids did not involve turning a deaf ear or just putting up with anything because it was so. If it would have some of the improvements YOU enjoy at WVHS now would never have happened. As an former Warrior parent, I hope people like Eagledad not only call out items that need attention, but follow thru to make sure it happens. The days of 'just taking it' are over..we've seen what that leads to

Out of curiosity, what are the lunch schedules of NV and MV? Or of other large schools? Do they also have "lunch" scheduled at 9:10 a.m.? Ridiculous.

I know it is common in 204, one of my daughters had to go through that, but "accepting it" is to give in to the kind of thinking that is all to common in 204.

It's a valid question. Neuqua serves lunch over 3rd - 7th periods as well.

I think the root issue here is that the lunch periods are naturally aligned with 50 minute classroom periods. No one needs 50 minutes for lunch, and as I understand it, the kids can roam the halls with the extra time. They should have 4 shorter lunch periods (say 30 or 35 minutes) with a staggered class schedule (alternate bells) during that 2 hour period. The classes would re-align for the afternoon after the last lunch. My high school did this and I know a lot of others do today.
