Neuqua’s first Fall Bash brings three high schools together

Wildcats, Warriors and Mustangs will come together to celebrate the start of school while collecting items for the troops and raising money during Neuqua Valley High School’s first Fall Bash.
“I want people and the schools to see that kids from the three different high schools can all get along and celebrate the beginning of the school year and enjoy a great show,” said Rick Kasbee, Naperville resident and one of the Fall Bash’s coordinators. They are expecting 3,000 students to attend.
In the spring, Neuqua Booster Club vice president Roberta Menendez had a vision of hosting a concert at the high school. She was put in contact with Kasbee, a fellow Neuqua parent, whose numerous connections helped pull the event together. Menendez acquired approval by the school district for the bash and never looked back. The result is an evening of music and entertainment, featuring up-and-coming bands as well as some better-known names such as Naperville’s favorite “American Idol” contestant, Gina Glocksen, and pop music band A Rocket To The Moon.
A few of the performances will feature Neuqua students, including alternative bands The New Epidemic and This Week’s Trend, as well as singer Kristin Bronersky. Also providing entertainment will be X Factor contestants BG2. The evening will be hosted by Julian of B96 radio.
“You never know if these bands will be famous,” Kasbee said. “You hear (stories of adults) saying they saw Styx performing at their high school (when they were teenagers).”
It is also a chance for some local talent to perform in front of a large audience, with headliners like A Rocket To The Moon and Glocksen.
“It’s really cool that we were asked to play with the band A Rocket to the Moon again,” said Ryan Hutt, a member of The New Epidemic and Neuqua senior. “I think it’s a great way to kick off our band’s senior year, and I hope a lot of kids come to this great event.”
The evening also will include a supply drive for the troops. The top 10 items needed to fill stockings for those overseas will be listed on the back of the tickets. Items will also be collected at Neuqua, Waubonsie and Metea on Sept. 7, 8 and 9 for students who cannot come to the concert.
“We really want this to be a community involvement,” Menendez said. “Not just a concert ... but also for the community and students to realize we’re doing something for the troops for the holidays and to commemorate Sept. 11.”
Menendez said that, after expenses, the boosters hope to raise $30,000, which will go to the Neuqua Valley High School Athletic Booster Club. The club supports all athletic activities at Neuqua and sponsors six scholarships for seniors.[/b][/b] Last year the club donated more than $60,000 to the athletic department and students.
“I hope we get 3,000 people leaving the show saying what a great time they had and cannot wait to the next one,” Kasbee said.

I thought this story was great until I got to the part that all the money raised will go only to the NV Athletic Booster Club. Certainly the club can do any type of fund raiser they like and kudo's to them on this event. I just think it is a little deceiving that this event is billed as something to bring the three schools together, when the ultimate motive is to raise money for only one of the three athletic booster clubs.
