the following article is interesting and prepares parents for a potential drop in GPA from HS to college. I wish this also had private schools ( colege or HS- but it does not)-

the average WVHS college attendee had a GPA of 3.25 and freshman year of college had a 2.61

the average Neuqua graduate had a GPA of 3.29 and freshman
year of college 2.84

The newly-released High School-to-College Success Report shows how Illinois public school graduates fared when they became freshmen at the state’s universities and community colleges. The ACT company tracked more than 90,000 students who graduated from public high schools between 2006 and 2008, and then enrolled full-time at an Illinois university or community college that fall. The data do not include students who went to a private college or out-of-state. For each high school, families can look up average high school GPAs and grade point averages earned at each public university and community college that students attended.

An interesting article indeed. I would like to see the spread between public VS private HS.

More importantly did the students bring it up a notch and increase grades in the later years of their college career.

Of course what areas are of major concerns for incoming college freshman... Math and Science.... The time has come to get back to the AFFORDABLE measureable basics!!

It's not clear to me if the high school GPA is for the entire school or just the subset of students who attended Illinois public colleges. I think it's an important distinction as a school wide GPA is likely somewhat lower than the subset of college bound students.

Does anyone know for sure what the comparison is?
