With the budget problems thought it relevant to reflect on our administration salaries in the district and how they have changed in our deep economic recession over the last 3 years (the CPI indexes in these years rose 1.5% and 3.0 % respectively). Here is the 3 year salary data numbers for Kathy Birkett (Superintendent), Martha Bauman (Asst. Superintendent, Elementary), and Linda Rakestraw (Asst. Superintendent, Secondary), as given by the Family Taxpayers Foundation: Name | Title | 2009 Salary | 2010 Salary | 2011 Salary | '09-'10 raise | '10-'11 raise | '09-'11 raise | Ave yearly raise | Kathy Birkett | Superintendent | $163,581 | $231,796 | $231,796 | 42% | 0% | 42% | 21% | Martha Baumann | Asst. Superintendent, Elementary | $120,109 | $136,500 | $144,690 | 14% | 6% | 20% | 10% | Linda Rakestraw | Asst. Superintendent, Secondary | $123,824 | $136,355 | $136,355 | 10% | 0% | 10% | 5% |
Looks like a good place to work. Feel free to reach your own conclusions.

I'm impressed with your beautiful chart ED . I also think it's quite impressive that ANYONE has gotten a raise in the 2009-11 time period. Kathy Birkett got a 42% raise in one year! Look at the private sector and that pretty much IS NOT happening anywhere. Do you suppose the finance committee or whatever they're calling themselves looked at furlough days for administrators and principals like they did in Chicago? Interesting concept but Chicago did a poor job of implementing such a plan. It could have some merit though if anything just to send the message that everyone should be willing to dig in to their pockets a little to make things work.

Yes ED, your technical skills are exceptional. Nice presentation. This does a good job of explaining why we are where we are. Birkett, among others, has this pot of money sitting in front of her and is only to happy to skim off the top to get her "fair share" courtesy of a Board that can not seem to understand the math sufficiently to figure out that these raises are running the quality of District 204 education into the ground. At least this "Board" spelled it out almost a year ago when she got that series of raises... ipsd204.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=news&action=display&thread=3627Thanks Metzger, for your infinite wisdom, and I'm sure Birkett would like to thank a Board that remains clueless.
