"Parents should really hear their children out before grounding them this fall. Those ISAT scores might not be as bad as they seem". www.nwherald.com/2013/03/05/isat-standards-toughen-on-their-way-out/awxzqxx/When you read this article you've got to be freakin' kidding me. The state finally does something right and toughens the verbiage on ISAT results - especially as it realtes to college prep- and we have local pols posting apologies to Facebook to explain how 'much tougher' the standards have become. Mind you- the questions did not get tougher -- the numerical scores did not get tougher -- only the explanation as to real progress changed ! So let's make sure we don't upset the kiddies, or teachers or admin who owns curriculum -- let's give them a pass on why the % that really are exceeded/ meeting dropped 25%. this is why nothing ever gets better and some school districts kick our behinds in ACt-SAT etc.... I had enough and sent my assessment to Darlene Senger ( who posted on Facebook) - and hope she shares with Birkett and others. This is just another reason I sent my second child to a school where the numerical grades for A's B's etc- and to pass were much tougher - no curves on grades - no grade credit for homework for the most part etc....... I got a realistic review on my child's college prep- not one meant to not upset someone even though it's honest. Demand tougher standards and prep - you're paying out the wazoo for it in property taxes ( and are about to pay a lot more )
