In just looking briefly at the figures, 12 schools are down on enrollment and 9 schools are up. If 90% capasity is optimal, the majority of the schools fall in the 70% range - and that is without adding in Peterson. It would make sense that at the middle school and high school level enrollment would be up because we are seeing the growth bubble moving through. That equals a lot of empty classrooms or under utilized schools.

It is optimal but it is impossible to have every school at 90%. Some are going to under and some over. It is called supply and demand for an area. If it becomes a bigger problem then just move some boundaries around.
Nice to see Vickers rise from the dead. Notice how he ignores the first grade class size in his numbers. We are above the no growth model.

I do believe private facilities are having an impact on K enrollment. More and more people are choosing all day K.
Other than K, I think All Saint's opening affected the local catholic schools more than public. All Saints isn't full (don't they serve 2 parishes - St. Thomas in Brookdale and one in Lisle?) and Sts. Peter and Paul is making a big push for enrollment (yard signs and such) and heard a rumor (unconfirmed) that St. Raphaels is struggling with low enrollment.
Still, I don't think there enough high school spots to absorb those grade schools and will result in increased HS enrollment for 204.

Yes Bob that is true, some schools will have more others will have less. I would like to point out a couple -Watts - capasity of 850 students, they have 527, Spring Brook capasity of 950, they have 682, Owen- capasity 850 they have 562. If you look at these schools, if they operated at 95% capasity, that would equate to 808 students at Watts. 808-527=281 students. If you have 25 kids/class, thats 11 empty classrooms in that school.
I am just pointing out that there is quite a bit of empty space at the elementary level without Peterson even open. If they move the students from Wheatland to Peterson, you will have an 850 capasity school with 349 students in it.

BC- Elementary school space is not the problem HS space is. The problem is that even with the "decline" in 1 grade level, the average population of each grade is a tad over 2100, meaning there will be over 8400 High school students, of which there is currently not enough space.

That's true however the elementary enrollment shows that we are leveling off and another full blown high school may not really be needed. Look at the 2004 enrollment figures - We are less than those, and only 137 students off of the 2003 enrollment figures. Thats only 5.5 classrooms.

The scene at the two HS if blankcheck had her/his way. 4600 at each HS I am convinced you are CFO, no matter how many times you claim you are not.

I anyone else here feeling a sense of DejuVu?
Didn't we debate this a little bit last year? Oh yeah, I remember - we did.
I don't see anything in the '06 numbers that alter it.

Bob-Are you sure that is a picture of one of our high schools? I would hate to think you would post a picture that did not reflect our school district -just like the PR firm the school district hired did!

Well there you go again, starting your FUD. The SD had nothing to do with that picture. The picture in question was used by 204theKids which is no way affliated with the SD . Keep on trying to spread CFO lies and I will keep proving you wrong.

Speaking of CFO lies, did anybody keep a hold of the last flyer from CFO distributed before the election?
I seem to recall it had some real good lies to remember. The one that sticks out in my mind was something to the effect of if we passed the referendum we were cutting ourselve off from state aid. I don't remember exactly which is why I'm wondering if anybody kept this.
I would have kept it, but the people CFO paid to distribute the flyer didn't place it where it wouldn't blow away and I found it in my yard next to where I keep dog waste. Both fitting and true.

CO - If you really need that for some reason, there are 2 places to check: - They were supposed to file a paper copy with the board of elections. I remember one of the fliers clearly stating the flier WAS properly filed. - Search the microfische Naperville Sun around election time (I think NPL keeps a copy). CFO took out those gigantic ads with about 2 point font with a lot of the same craziness that was in the fliers.

I also remember someone pointing out that if you were to actually go to the high schools during school hours and take a photograph, you would have to confirm that every child in the photograph had consent on file before you could publish it, which seems like quite an impossible task. (Remember the paperwork you fill out at the beginning of the year asking for that?)
