D204 should review chosen school siteI was very upset to learn that School District 204 was considering the Eola/Molitor parcel to build our third high school. I expressed my concerns back in January to the board and asked them at the Jan. 22 board meeting to please put off the final decision until the safety of the site could be fully determined. I was very upset that the board approved the purchase back in January before the necessary testing was complete. I did read the reports published by the board before the 2006 referendum that eliminated this site from consideration due to the harm it presents to children's health. It was unsettling to hear that the EMFs are not the only environmental concern with this site; now we are dealing with ground water and soil contamination as well as pipeline mains running through the property. It is unsettling to me that the board has now approved contracts to begin construction before the soil contamination is cleaned up and before reports on the known contaminants are made available to the public. I once again plead with the district to please take a step back to review all of their options and weigh the cumulative known risks associated with the Eola/Molitor parcel before they make such a big decision regarding the health and safety of my children.
