District 204 put Longwood Elementary School on lockdown Thursday after police received a call of what looked like a suspect toting a gun on the roof of a nearby house.
DuPage County sheriff's police responded to the call where a suspect was seen with a gun that looked like an assault rifle near the school at 30W240 Bruce Lane.
The gun turned out to be a full-sized soft air rifle, which looks much like a real M16 assault rifle, according to DuPage County sheriff spokeswoman Dawn Domrose. According to police, a 15-year-old boy was on the roof about noon on Campbell Drive and Briar Lane - just a block from the Indian Prairie District 204 elementary school.

Police questioned and released the subject by about 12:25 p.m. after searching the area. Traffic on Campbell Drive briefly shut down and no arrests were made.
Janet Buglio, spokeswoman for District 204, said the school was on lockdown during the incident and was cleared after police determined that the area was safe.
Domrose said police do not know why the 15-year-old was on the roof and not in school at the time of the incident. Police did not disclose any more information about the boy because he is a minor.
