Naperville should settle with Dick Furstenau
In June of 2007, after he was found not guilty of hitting a Naperville police officer, Councilman Dick Furstenau asked only for an apology and discipline of the officers he believed to have falsely arrested him. Later, the then Naperville city manager put out a great deal of derogatory info on Dick Furstenau in the paper at the behest of some City Council members.
The city manager then quits and receives a payment of about $100,000 from these same City Council members. When was the last time you quit a job and your boss gave you a bonus for leaving?
This case has already been lost by the city due to that payoff that was made. This case needs to be settled ASAP to avoid wasting more taxpayer money.
I haven't seen anything this dumb since the City Council voted to bail out the Millennium Carillon with millions and millions in taxpayer money.
Okay, maybe District 204's "quick take" was dumber, but we don't expect anything too intelligent to come out of District 204 headquarters these days.
At least the City Council isn't trying to build an empty and unneeded school building on PCB contaminated property at a cost of $200 million to taxpayers.

D204 high school site questions go on and on
A recent article about the construction delays of the District 204 third high school mentioned that the school board does not have a signed contract to purchase the Midwest Generation parcel. This is outrageous. I am not a fan of the third high school, which I believe is totally unnecessary, and I also believe the entire manner in which this has been handled has been poor at best. However, even people who support the third high school have to see this as irresponsible and almost reckless conduct by the school board.
How can they have changed their plans, approved contracts, etc., without having a contract to buy the property? How can they say the environmental cleanup will be undertaken by Midwest Generation? What are they going to do if the deal falls through?
The list of questions it goes on and on.

Paul White wants us to know how he feels about everything.
Also a FULL PAGE N-FUD ad in SUN today. "WHY Won't D204 Put Safety First? (excerpts) - 2nd line " The entire site myst be tested when you know the sellers have over 7600 admitted pollution violations!
4th line: "A scathing letter to the IEPA from Atty GEn Lisa Madigans office documents more than 7600 pollution violations since 1999 at six plants owned by Midwest Gen including two in Chicago and three in suburbs. 'Bla, bla bla at the end the ad states "The violations reported above ARE NOT specific to the Eola/molitor locations but that site was operated by the very same company identified in the article."
Talk about scare tactics.

Very ironic that this ad appears today. Yesterday, I googled Midwest Generation to see what info was out there. I believe that Com Ed is the parent company of Midwest Generation. There were several violations which Mr. McFarland from Midwest was addressing.
The problem with this ad is that it is misleading. While there were several sites address by Madigans office regarding the use of coal, the Eola site was not one of them. Having said that, I am not saying that there may not be other issues - just not this one.
Regarding Mr. White and his letters - Although I did get a morning chuckle over my coffee reading this, I really think he has way to much time on his hands and needs to find a job.

Talk about scare tactics. I will say it was refreshing to see an LTE (Robert's) and the Ad attempting to present a view point without attacking a group of residents. You certainly do not need to agree with the content but I will choose to believe these tactics are much less personal/scary than others.

WeBE204 I agree with you. The name calling and bulling are so school days.
With all the intimidation that is out there I am a little nervous about what will happen if the SB does not get this land. After the 2006 ref several houses in WE were vandalized. Garage doors had been painted on with not such nice words. Scary!!!

Someone was telling me those stories over the weekend. I was told the paint was orange. Not sure about that part at all. Earlier, I was doing some quick web searching to try and add those stories to my last post. So, I would have proof. But I could not find anything.

Talk about scare tactics. It is a scare tactic by the most prolific LTE writer in the western hemisphere - but then the site scares me.I have no idea how people can give the SB and SD a pass on this testing where we are going to put kids for the next 50 yers. All I can conclude is that they have anothr reeason for wanting the site- and are even willing to risk my childrens and other childrens health for that reason. Now THAT is selfish and wreckless. If the site was Hamman out south - would you not want it completely tested also ? I notice I didnt see an answer to that - it is not being built ON the landfill- but I know if the site shifted there I'd sure as heck want that completely tested also. Hell SB member CB siad last April he would not put kids at MACOM because of a switching station - so why the Hell would we be placing kids at AME now in what certainly appears to be a reckless manner? The SCARE by the SD- SB not being applied the same now is it ? Is it because PL owns MACOM that the issues there ( less issues than AME ) are scarier ? The owner doesn't matter when it comes to property. I am ticked about Sam Zell wanting to sell the name of Wrigley Field before he dumps the Cubs -- he by all accounts is an arrogant person with far more money than care for any property - but I am still going to follow the Cubs and attend their site. and btw - YES, I would want the entire MACOM site tested also. Soil samples were done at BB were they not ? If someone wants to do more testing for whatever reason ( radioactive horse poop ? ) or whatever - fine - I'm going to guess there will be NO remediation necessary at BB. How did our SB and SD suddenly become PHD's in EPA sciences ? Again, send your children to a site that has been okayed by Administraotrs, finance people and attorneys if you want - I want the IEPA to apoprove ( if I had my way I would want the Federal EPA to approve ) -- this is a school, not a garage !

If the site was in the south (Hamman) I would be just as much or even more so against it.

The houses were on Fawn Lake Circle and also directly across from the WE school. Words and artwork depicting the male anatomy IIRC. Nice. Another emotional time; after countless boundary meetings.......I'm sure whomever is guilty was temporarily insane.

AD IN SUN:
WHY WON’T D204 PUT SAFETY FIRST?
The entire site MUST be tested when YOU know the sellers have over 7600 admitted pollution violations?
The following is an excerpt from a Chicago Tribune article on August 29, 2005: “A scathing letter to the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency from Atty. Gen. Lisa Madigan's office documents more than 7,600 pollution violations since 1999 at six plants owned by Midwest Generation, including two in Chicago and three in the suburbs. Madigan's office, though, is accusing the EPA of skirting a "clear, absolute and nondiscretionary requirement of federal law." The attorney general wants Chicago-based Midwest Generation to agree to clean up the aging plants, some of which were built five decades ago, before the EPA grants the company new air-pollution permits. "That these violations occurred is indisputable," Ann Alexander, Madigan's environmental counsel, wrote in an Aug. 1 letter to the EPA, a copy of which was obtained by the Tribune. "Principles of sound law enforcement do not generally counsel excusing violators because they deny the violations occurred, especially when their self-reported compliance data admits to thousands of violations," Alexander wrote.” Source: Chicago Tribune (IL) - August 29, 2005
Midwest Generation is selling the School Board 37 acres for new Metea HS site – the violations reported above are not specific to the Eola/Molitor location, but that site was operated by the very same company identified in the article
Put the kids first – Demand accountability from our School Board
Tell them they must thoroughly test the ENTIRE 87 acres BEFORE purchasing any of the Eola/Molitor land
Contact the school board at: Board-members@ipsd.org 630 375 300
