We had portables in the SD where I worked. They were used at the ES level. We had mushrooms growing in the carpeting. Although they were air conditioned as compared to the rest of the ES, the air quality was poor. The trailers were small. Those students were in those "classrooms" for most of the day because it was an ES. Those portables were there for at least 5 years until our SD tried for a referendum. It was not favorable conditions. I hope for the students at Scullen, the conditions of those portables are better quality.

They are governed by Life/Safety rules for Illinois and at a cost of approx. $100,000 each also have a max class size of 25. I am still digging thru Illinois code, but the comment at themeeting today was 5 year life span, then replace and I believe you have to file for approval at that point also.
I did find a writeup from Elmhurst school district which addressed that their portables had a lifespan of 4 -5 years
