I think we are all trying to be sensible. We are trying to understand the pros and cons of this site. I had a funny thought. Not being around in the 1950's and only watching shows like I Love Lucy or Leave It To Beaver, I have an interesting analogy in my head. The SB is the typical 1950's husband and the sd (us) are the 1950's wife. So the wife is worried about the land the 3rd hs is going on and the husband tells the wife not to worry her little head about such things. That he will take take of everything and make sure it is safe. Yeah.......this wife would like to see for herself that the site is safe. When someones says the same thing over and over (such as "sure you will see the data"), I start to wonder why it that being said. Just say it and show us.

I have been trying to bite my tongue while reading this thread. I've been holding back because I was afraid I might post some remarks that would get ED mad and kick me off. So, I will try to be restrained. Are you kidding me? Seriously? 8 hours a day? 5 days a week? Yes, 8 hours a day, 5 days a week in a CONCRETE BUILDING! The only EMFs are going to be coming from the stuff inside, not outside. Please be sensible! rural, are you stating that concrete (or brick) is a barrier of elecromagnetic fields? If so, better throw away your cell phones when inside a building.

As I recall, sporting activities are voluntary. If you or your child do not feel safe on the playing fields, don't try out for outdoor sports and don't attend sporting events that are outdoors. Otherwise, the only time your child will be exposed to the perceived elevated EMFs will be on the walk to and from the building each day. No offense, but I'd rather not send 1/3 of our district to a site where they have to make that decision when we don't need to. I don't think any kids should have to skip sports or outside activities because they are worried for their safety.

This is how I'm reading this thread:
Looks like MWGEN land will be remediated let's move to Plan B and focus on EMF when that doesn't work, let's try the pipelines again.
What I know comes from my own experiences of living by the power lines for over 15 years. The woman across the street from me has lived on the same land for 70 years. Her neighbor who was in his 80s just moved to a home a few years ago. Seems like it's okay in the long term. But, that's just my experience.

I think school itself is voluntary after age 16. We could choose have our kids drop out after sophmore year and cut our EMF exposure by half! Give me a break. Hmm, that would cut down on the school crowding and the need for a school, wouldn't it? Right. Let's make all voluntary activites dangerous. Think of all the money we could save.

My point is IT IS NOT DANGEROUS. If you PERCEIVE it as such, don't participate.

I don't see any homes near the power structures that the are building the school next to or anyhting like it.

I personally don't feel comfortable banking the health and welfare of 30+ years worth of students over the next 3+ decades just because some people lived into their 80s. And no, it's not a cascading list, it is an inclusive list of hazards and potential hazards and things that have a lot of ambiguities associated with them. The same scrutiny would be given to each site. If you bothered to read any of my posts in the past you would see me being critical of the problems surrounding the macomb site, the landfill site and even BB with respect to the years of farming that went on there and what it may have done to the soil. So, if you want to accuse anyone of trying to torpedo or trumpet a specific site possibly due to locality then start with the trumpeters first. Could you post the plan on how and to what extent the land will be remediated. No one, not even the administration admits to having that data. Please provide a link.

George Burns smoked cigars into his 90's, so by that logic smoking is safe for everyone, right You state anecdotal evidence. These are complex interactions taking place over a long time - if there's definitive proof, it will take years. The goals of these posts have been to raise awareness of the issue. I had no clue what EMF was a few weeks ago. The fact that the Illinois PTA has a resolution stating we should protect our kids from the harmful effects of EMF got my attention. As I said earlier, I hope everyone looks at both sides of the issue and draws their own conclusion.

I think this thread should be renamed to Keep the Dream Alive, Brach-Brodie in 2010! "Or, MV will be 1/2 mile from my house in 2009!" Runner up, "Karma!"

Arch, that's all you've got? I'm disappointed. I know your posts well enough to believe you can do better.
Try again.

I think this thread should be renamed to Keep the Dream Alive, Brach-Brodie in 2010! "Or, MV will be 1/2 mile from my house in 2009!" Runner up, "Karma!" Y'know arch, this is insulting. Some of us would be thrilled to have the school opening asap whether or not it's near our house. As I would be now if we had broken ground at BB right after the verdict. Or if we had gotten QT and started building months earlier. It's really not fair to lump everyone who is now getting a closer HS into this category because we were for the new HS when it was in another location as well. With kids in HS now and for years to come, I am anxious for the building to begin!

I tried google mapping NVHS, since there are lines there too. , and I wanted to look at the size/distance fromthe school. Then I looked at the MWGEN site, and those look considerably larger. Does anyone (Arch, probably) know what voltage these lines are? What about the ones at NVHS?
