Warrior Community Members: I write this brief note with a mix of very strong emotions. After hours of reflection, I am proud to announce that I will be the new principal at Metea Valley High School starting July 1, 2008. My significant enthusiasm is tempered, though, by the inevitable loss of many strong relationships that we have built together as a high school community. I greatly will miss the Warrior traditions, the challenges and successes we have experienced on a daily basis, but most importantly, a high school community that cares deeply about all kids. Proudly, I have spent 15 amazing years wearing the Green and Gold – my personal and professional growth is a direct reflection of the opportunities and challenges that we have worked through along the way–thank you for that! As Metea Valley opens in the fall of 2009, I look forward to building a climate and culture where students are at the heart of everything we do!
Jim Schmid Principal Waubonsie Valley

Indeed a good man - That'll help the 'ole albatross perception, huh? NV's principal just left for another position - I didn't hear complaints about that Staff from both NV and WV will be going to MV - the same thing happened when NV opened: many WV staff members went to NV

Indian Prairie School District 204 officials named Jim Schmid as principal to lead the opening of Metea Valley, the district's new high school, which is scheduled to open in 2009. Schmid currently serves as principal of Waubonsie Valley High School.
Moving from Waubonsie Valley was a difficult decision for Schmid, whose sons graduated from the school. "I've been at this school for a long time, but the opportunity to open another excellent high school in this district provides tremendous growth for me personally and professionally," Schmid said. "Working with parents, students, and staff to build culture and climate in a new school is both humbling and exciting."
Deputy Superintendent Kathy Birkett, who opened Neuqua Valley High School in 1997, said Schmid is a great fit to open the new school. "Jim is student focused and extremely well respected by his staff, students and parents. He will build a strong foundation for Metea Valley and its future."
Schmid began his teaching career at Waubonsie Valley in 1977. He left the school after a year to teach outside the district before returning to Waubonsie Valley in 1992 as dean of students. He later served as the school's guidance counselor, director of guidance, and assistant principal before being named principal in 2004.
Schmid's new position will begin July 1, 2008. In the year before the school opens, he will hire staff and meet with students who will attend the school in August 2009. Administrators anticipate naming Schmid's replacement this spring.

Okay - I have to say I'm livid about this. We lose our freshman campus and our principal? WTF? Thanks for another stellar decision - way to make friends and influence people.

Some would argue that losing the freshman campus is a positive. Including me. Yes there will be crowding the first couple of years but it will be a benefit to the freshman to not be separated from the main campus.

Folks, it should be no surprise that they will be pulling talent from NV and WV for Metea. Go ahead and add to your list(s) of things to complain about.

And, to be clear, a freshman "house"/area will be created in both WV and MV - so the freshman "campus" idea remains in place, just within the main building

As far as Jim Schmidt, I could not think of a better person to open Metea. A loss for Waubonsie, no doubt.

I like Jim, he was an assistant principal when my daughter was there....and at the time I felt like he was basically running a lot of the school anyway - so was glad to see him take over. personally I would like to see Rudy Keller take over WVHS - and seems tobe a good fit since he already has the freshman campus. But it seems like they are intent on mixing it up - so he'll maybe end up at NV.

I just don't see it. To me the freshman campus is one of the best things our SD has done.
