Why does California have a law that says no high school may be built on a site like MWGEN? If you watch the board meeting from Monday, you will learn that the laws in California DO NOT apply to natural gas pipelines.

If you watch the board meeting from Monday, you will learn that the laws in California DO NOT apply to natural gas pipelines. You need to reread the law...It says the only natural gas pipelines are allowable are the small pipelines there for THE SOLE PURPOSE of supplying the school THEIR OWN GAS. Natural Gas pipelines like the one at MWGEN are not allowed on school sites in CA.

Those same pipes run under streets and parks, through neighborhoods and around business across the country. Failure is highly unlikely due to the federally mandated safety precautions they have in place. The pipe won't automatically explode if it has a leak. It will need some form of combustion to ignite. Natural gas rises in the atmosphere. It doesn't pool. A small amount of gas will have a very strong smell most can recognize. The average HSchooler would be able to recognize and report a gas smell. Also, the pipes have valves that turn off the gas in the event of a drop in pressure along the line. I'm worried that we're making this into more than it needs to be. And everyone assumed that all the bridges were fine because of Federally mandated safety measures - just ask the folks in Minneapolis.............and the folks in New Orleans that were protected by Federally mandated safety precautions............. What do you consider an average HSchooler and why are you passing that off on them to protect themselves? Thats the SB's job, remember ?

In the case of a fire in the chemistry lab, I would think that the average HSchooler knows to get the he'll out of the room and exit the building. Same goes for any other emergency situation that is HIGHLY unlikely to occur. Actually, I think there's a greater chance for a fire in the chemistry lab.

I do not feel that we should put OUR children on this site. What is so hard to understand here? It is absolutely unacceptible to subject our children and 204 staff to an experiment they didn't sign on for. If you CHOSE to live near these hazards then that is what you signed on for. I don't care how many "experts" the SB parades around. I am certain that an equal number of "experts" could be found to dispute what those "experts" say. The bottom line is that NO ONE can be conclusive on this issue. I say NO GO at this site. Period.

However, with all of the attention this site is getting, I am not sure that will be the case. My family outside of 204 asked me about the "toxic waste dump" we were building our new high school on. That certainly doesn't sound like something that would add value to any house. Just check home prices near and beneath power lines and that is MILD compared to what we are talking about here.

And, again, the pipelines are 220 ft away from any planned building?

It is unclear, but rather than the pipelines running between the PE fields and baseball diamonds, Mr. Crawford from ENVIRON told me that he thought they ran through the PE fields. I wish that we had a visual that could directly show us where everything was going to be in relation to the hazards. Doesn't seem like they are in areas that will be occupied only briefly.

Also, I didn't know that NV or any other school in District 204 had industrial pipelines running under them on any part of the property.

They run from Wisconsin to Mexico. I wonder what else is built near them? Subdivisions? Hospitals? Shopping malls? It's not like these pipes are out in the desert. Do any of us really know what is underneath us at any given moment? I have to be afraid of EMF's, radon, underground pipes. I'm moving to Iowa! (Oops then I have to be worried about agricultural pesticides.) What a world we live in.

Do any other schools in 204 have industrial pipelines running under them on ANY part of the school property?
