I continue to find it interesting that we assume that this will blow up - and if we ar really worried about saving young lives - should we not be focused on kids driving. Significantly increasing the miles kids have to travel in the district to get to high school (by more than 10%) is not helping that stat. Will the kids be 'taking the bus' to football games too?

There was a great idea for stadium lighting... give everyone a tubular fluorescent bulb to just hold up in the air.

What the heck was that ? If someone knows what he was talking about - please share.

He said BB was tough to deal with.
Thank you, Captain Obvious.

I suppose I'm part of the silent majority, but I'll still have one of the longest commutes in the district. What matters to me is that the Phase I and Phase II reports came back very positively from one of the best environmental testing companies, only requiring minimal remediation, which I understand will be done. After hearing/reading the reports, I am very comfortable sending my children to MV. Again, if this is truly about safety then we should be able to move on. But clearly because the NSFOC has specified in their relief request that it is essentially "BB or nothing", this will go on and on, unfortunately. So what matters to me is how much time, money and energy the board and administration will have to waste on this lawsuit. As a parent, I'm happy to attend MV. As a taxpayer, I'm ticked that the NSFOC keeps taking this to the degree they are.

People are throwing a word, 'safe' around that was not used anywhere in the reports other than personal interpretations thereof. They spoke of getting the level of chemicals under certain levels via different methods. They also spoke of just simply covering others up to 'qualify' for a certain standard of remediation. Back to my pile of dog crap on the carpet analogy. If you just put a paper towel over it and promise not to step on it, some people would probably call that 'good enough'.

As a tax payer I am ticked that people are so short sited to not wait for the BB damages and selling the extra BB land. As a tax payer I absolutely puke on the contrived land report and the wasted money since the first 2005 ref.. So save me the self righteous crap, thanks.

Arch, Your post (above) reminded me of my all time favorite quote on this board. This particular quote (of yours) launched me off my chair (in a giggle) when you first stated it. It was, as I remember... "Eat your own dog food". LOL... I just fell off the chair again laughing. Unfortunately, I would apply this quote to tonight's meeting. Personally, I don't believe anything they say anymore. Since learning I can't trust this board/administration, I'm eating my "own" dog food. Edit: Your reference to "dog crap" reminded me of what we've been fed.

Since you are ticked about $ being wasted.....I hope you are also ticked about the $ that will be wasted for the BB debacle....we don't even know what that will be yet, but the SB continues to move forward....this is unacceptable....

So instead of paying BB for the site we will have a very amicable, long term relationship with one of the best environmental testing firms in the country. Those damages will outlive even the BB damages, right? Talk about throwing good money after bad.

Those damages will outlive even the BB damages, right? Talk about throwing good money after bad. And in less than 2 decades certain pipelines will have outlived their operating life. God forbid they abruptly want to end themselves sooner, then, other things will end. I hope everyone can live with that if it comes to fruition. I can't, and that's why I keep pressing the issue. How anyone else could live with it, I have no idea.

This is a point that needs to be stressed. The word "safe" does not enter into the discussion. There are no established safe levels for EMFs and certainly not for PCBs. We all no someone who smoked their entire lives and did not develop lung cancer...it does not mean cigarettes are safe. The incidence of cancer is rising and has been since the 1970's. The treatments have improved survival rates, but the incidence grows daily. This increased incidence is true for childhood cancer as well. We are not succeeding in identifying causes and preventing disease.

OK MustangSix, let's briefly discuss driving and safety - 13% increase in transportation miles versus BB - do you agree more teenage miles driven equates to a higher chance of accidents? Increase from 4 to 9 the number of ES areas crossing RR tracks versus BB. Add to that the CN merger which will increase train traffic. What you call "malarkey" is citizens doing the due dilligence that the administration should have done. I continue to find it interesting that we assume that this will blow up - and if we ar really worried about saving young lives - should we not be focused on kids driving. I say don't let kids drive to school; make them take the bus! Let's lobby for drivers licenses at 18 or even 21. I'm just saying we all know more kids are killed by driving than this 'what if malarkey .. maybe...' Sure it could happen and tomorrow a plane could fall out of the sky and the next day .... sorry, but I'm not into catastrophizing. It shows an underlying agenda that really has no relation to saving kids lives - or we would be out there saving lives. And not carping like we are some kind of environmental experts. We aren't.
