FYI naperville township residents of ipsd 204. The naperville township website has updated '07 assessed values. Most neighborhoods have increases in the 6-7% range. I am surprised at the increases given the current housing market.

The value's have been dropping as you say, but not back more than a year ago -- although I reallynever expect to see a decrease in value from a tax standpoint - only in reality

It is my understanding that they are 1/1/07 values. Maybe next years' assessments will reflect the downturn. I was expecting an increase of 4-5% for 2007.

I still don't beleive we'll see lower values next year - even if we should, but maybe the increase will will in the 2 -3 range

One can always appeal your assessment to the Twp.

I appealed once and got a pretty decent sized adjustment downwards. But, for this year, I'm just not sure what the argument should be. We did some construction and the increase in assessed value is significantly lower than the 1/3 we probably would/will see in increase in home value.

I got mine in the mail today and it's just over 6% increase for the year 2007. It says - Reason for change in assessed value: Provide uniformity with similar properties.
It is somewhat surprising that the value is up considering home sales in the neighborhood have been for considerably less than in the past year than they would have been the year before that.
I can't argue because the new value seems pretty close to 1/3 of market value.

Consider yourself lucky -- just opened mine - up 11% go figure -- same reason - provide uniformity with similar properties

I guess they just spread it around -- likely in the assessors office with a big spinning wheel and %'s marked in the pie shaped wheel of fortune type system.....
