If we don't buy BB land, we'll still be exposed to potentially huge lawsuit damages - another new ASSumption that needs to be brought into the calculus. People are already leaving over this- you can thank your leaders for that. Again. assign your area to AME and tell me you'd send your children there ? I am still onthe 3rd HS bus, but the numbers do warrant looking at with regards to what we build also. Remember the request to build a 2500 max HS @ BB ? Or to build a 'magnet' type school. Let's hope everything is really on the table. Even if everyone still has a belief in what SHOULD be done, it would be very prudent to comb back over everything again to make sure the ducks are in a row and we are still moving forward with VALID DATA and not just ASSumptions about everything: Costs, Capacity need, Land size, etc.

This didn't seem to be a issue w/the S/D before, not saying I agree. I'm now on the fence(since yesterday) about even the 3rd HS needed.

My suggestion is that the school district build a half-baked school on the 25 acres they own at BB, and Jasmine Grassi from the No School crown can explain to the rest of her friends in Tall Grass and White Eagle why their kids are in an over crowded school. (But at least they wouldn't be with those Waubonsie kids!) Being hateful gets you nowhere....it only makes yourself miserable...Maybe you should turn your hate towards something else, because bashing certain areas make you look ridiculous....How about contacting Midwest Generation and complain to them about not selling the land to 204....wasn't this their decision? Or better yet instead of being mad at them, maybe thank them for not taking the risk of putting your children in harm's way.

August 2007: School board President Mark Metzger accuses state Sen. Linda Holmes, new sponsor of the quick-take proposal, of delaying the legislation unless the district changes its high school boundaries for two subdivisions. The legislature, locked in an overtime session budget battle, never votes on the measure. AH, good times. I forgot that Metzger had insulted and personally attacked Linda Holmes in the paper this summer. What's that old saying about catching flies with honey? Also, I bet the construction companies that we approved contracts for so they could go hire workers are so pleased with the mismanagement and incompetence. Who approved contracts for companies to go out and hire workers before they even have a land deal?

Seriously, the SB needs to stop this madness. The supporters of the SB need to take a step back and look at how irresponsible they are being. What will it take for this uncontrollable train to stop?

We can not afford to build a comprehensive high school on BB. We can if we try. How about applying for the BuildSmart program to get some grant money if we actually decide to "build smart" and follow the guidelines.

We can not afford to build a comprehensive high school on BB. i have never been convinced of this. There must be a reason sb members felt we COULD afford BB with quick take only a few months prior to the verdict There must be a reason HC stated (and MM) that we could afford worst case scenario...HC stated we could afford $600K/acre according to posts I have read. They walked from BB for one reason and one reason only....they "lost" . If they don't go back to BB, then the only ones who lose are our kids. Why can't we use operating funds for construction like 203 has done? Just because MM said he won't doesn't mean we can't and shouldn't. It won't be the first time MM says something which later changes.

Before the referendum, the district acquired 25 acres for the school--at a cost of $257,500 per acre--from two trusts, including the estate of the late candy heiress Helen Brach. The district sought the remaining 55 acres from the trusts for the same price and later upped its offer to $260,000 per acre, but the Brach trust contends that the parcel is worth $600,000 per acre. At issue in the legislature was an attempt by the district to secure so-called quick take power for the 55 acres. Earlier this month, a DuPage County judge ruled for the district in a condemnation case to obtain the land. Although satisfied, district officials also sought the quick take powers from the legislature, contending that its construction plans would be delayed if it was forced to await the outcome of a jury trial expected next year to determine the fair market value of the property. District officials maintained that even if they obtained the quick take power, they would pay whatever price the jury determined for the property. But a lobbyist representing the land trusts questioned the district's ability and willingness to pay a high-end price for the land and whether school district taxpayers would be satisfied by such an outcome. "Our only concern is whether they're going to have the money to pay the award when that time comes," lobbyist James Morphew said. "It's our position, when you have such a wide disparity between the governmental unit and the property owner, the prudent thing to do would be to wait and see where the jury comes down in terms of compensation." Crouse countered Morphew's assertion. "We believe that we have sufficient funds available through referendum or other sources to pay fair market value of the property," Crouse told lawmakers. Only three members of the House panel, including sponsoring Rep. Joseph Dunn (R-Naperville), supported the measure while nine members cast a "present" vote. The vote effectively killed the measure for the short fall veto session, but Dunn said that if the district wants to pursue it, he would try to bring the bill back in the new General Assembly that begins Jan. 10. So, does this mean that when the SB goes back to BB and says, "okay we'll give you $518k/acre for the BB land" that BB will say "no way" since this is a new offer in a different year and then the SB will be back in court fighting for a new price for this land, which if it goes the way it has in the past might have an $800k/acre price on it? ??
