I would like the board to know that I just simply don't understand what changed between the time of quick-take and a few months later when the jury verdict was awarded? I don't understand why they walked from BB other than the fact that they "lost". I don't understand why we stated we could and would afford worst case scenario on BB and yet when that opportunity presented itself we walked. I don't understand why you would not honor the will of the voters and build on BB when BB is still available AND have filed lawsuits against the district and WANT the district to purchase their land. I know some will say, "We cannot afford BB", but I do not believe that since in the past they indicated we could afford BB and we clearly see that we are now exposing our district to paying out millions more than we would have paid for BB in the future. I hold no personal grudges against the school board but I do think they have acted recklessly with taxpayer monies. A third high school is NEEDED SOON; Brach Brody could have yielded this result without the threat of looming lawsuits holding over this district for years. Probably b/c cost was $16M greater than anticipated and in '05 it was hard enough getting voters to agree on $124M referendum

gman I wish I knew what the hidden agenda was, because if they were doing what would be right they would of never done alot of choices/mistakes that they did. Walking a way from BB, buying this land from AME, etc..

I want the SB to know that they are winners of the "Build Dumb" sweepstakes. You receive a lifetime supply of lawsuits, bills, jeers, embarassment, and shame. You will never sleep well knowing how you blatantly thumbed your nose at the IL Build Smart Guidelines in which pages of volunteers spent 4 months trying to develop guidelines to guarantee success and safety for the kids, the teachers, and to also protect the school districts' financial well being. How can you just throw out their guidelines A$$uming you know more than these true experts? ? www.cdb.state.il.us/schools/Acknowledgements.pdf

Oh, but we could NEVER EVER EVER spend op funds on Brach Brodie.

D204 Mom - didn't you hear Alka? Not only are we ON budget, we are $2M below budget. It's truly amazing. Fuzzy math. Works great. As someone pointed out a few months ago it's what we're teaching in school. Could that be why math scores are down in the NCLB tracking referenced last night?

We are doing the physically responsible thing by buying AME! (I'm sorry but you have to admit that lady was funny.)

Hilarious! Just change the illustrator from JoAnn to "Dr."
She was funny - how many times in 3 minutes did she say that? I believe that was the land meeting in January, right? If I'm not mistaken, Dr. D made the same blooper last night in his energetic endorsement of their recommendation. "It's physically responsible!"

He did say physically responsible. Maybe he missed his afternoon nap.
Or, maybe clever spin on words. Down the line if BB wins their suit he can say, "I never said fiscally responsible, I said physically responsible."

I though the SB had a hidden agenda, I now know they do as well as being stupid. I wish they could see from the outside how bad it is. They are so rapped up in their ---- they don’t have a clue. People with the way you are going we won't have any money to educate the kids of 204! That's why you are here, not to spend wildly! And the "hidden agenda" is...?? The Social Engineering experiment known as the "New Waubonsie".

204Parent are you referring to the "improving the "Albatross" plan?
Don't blame me, I didn't say it.
To add: I've never uttered one bad word about WVHS. Yet, despite any issue I may have with the decision making abilities of our elected leaders and the debacle they've created, I'm labeled a racist, entitled, Waubonsie Hater.
I'm so over this!

Because it failed in 05 and promising BB got it to pass in 06? I'm not understanding your point. ETA Or are you implying that "we can't afford" to take $3 M from Op Funds to open the school in '10 at BB when we "found" $3 M in op funds to complete the WVHS improvements that were rejected by voters in 2005?

It was never a BB "deal". Rather a bitter, long drawn out eminent domain suit that might cost us millions when it is all said and done.
A suit we lost because of the incompetence of our legal representation (my opinion).
WE WON the suit ultimately, held up the land for years, stated numerous times we could afford the jury verdict and then "walked away". All the while, the district leaders were assuring residents not to worry, we could afford it, and that it was ridiculous to think a jury would award over 500K an acre.
ETA: The district's "walking away" from purchase of the land also resulted in the BB estate losing out on the Preit sale.
Again, I encourage all to read through the BB complaint. I find it very worrisome.
