This whole situation just makes me sick. My defenses are up and it makes me want to think of a counter-attack, but I hope that our community and people involved in the NSFOC can hold it together and act like bigger people - not shrink to this level.

I suppose my point is that it must be weird to sit in a half a million dollar house and call someone else an elitist and a racist because they want what you want, and you both can't have it. This isn't about politics - it's about posers. I have no problem with someone being honest and saying we want the school at Eola because it would be beneficial to us. Or we want it at BB because it would be beneficial to us. Not we want it at Eola because we are trying to save the world and our children from the clutches of elitist snobs bent on getting their own way. It's not fair. Wah. Or vice versa. This is all just a laughable joke. I just spent the last week in Israel for work, and I guess I'm a little blown away that we are actually calling "elitist" in a town like this. When we are all incredibly fortunate and blessed to have this be the only thing we have to fight over.... If you don't want to be labeled, then don't label others. What do you mean be "latte liberals"?

What we'll see are people posing as NFSOC people in the anonymous and unaccountable Sun Blogs hurling crap. I've honestly not seen a real person quoted from NFSOC who's been doling out anything like this. Everything I see from their spokesperson has been focused on promised made by the SB, site safety and their other talking points. ETA: typos.. I need more coffee

MWGEN could not assure our governmental leaders, as well as our school leaders that the land could ever be "clean". I am pleased that my elected official forced the issue using what ever means necessary to get an honest assessment from MWGEN. What is "whatever means necessary"? Did she say you won't be able to do business in the state of Illinois as Mr. Martinson implies. That's ridiculous--she wouldn't have that power. I have a difficult time believing that the Jr. Senator could make such threats. MWGEN made a business decision. What is the measure for how much or how little remediation makes land safe for children? I somehow don't think they could answer that.

I think what they want is to start the name calling so we are concentrating on the name calling instead of the fact that our inept SB is not looking at the BB land. We need to continue emailing them to let them know that this is not acceptable with 3 lawsuits hanging over their heads. Enough of the name calling. We know what kind of people live in Brookdale. It is good for people to see what levels the will go to get out of WVHS.

"This whole thing has got to stop. I can't stand the racist etc comments. We all know it is being thrown out there because people are desperate. "
sleepless...I am not a big fan of going public with the "R" word. Even if you feel that way, you really need to have solid PROOF before throwing out that accusation.
that being said, Does it sound any crazier or desperate than calling eola property polluted, or saying children will come down with some horrible sickness, or that many children will die when a pipeline explodes?
ask yourself which of the scenarios is more likely. racism or the latter. unfortunately, the comments in the article paint a picture of an entire community of people which is far from the truth....

The sad reality now is none of that even has to matter anymore because we are in multiple corsshairs that will financially bankrupt our district.

Concerned, I agree with your first comments. They are desperate and it shows. Maybe we should give them Jesse Jackson's number and they could stage a sit-in in Tall Grass. Then we could bring out the large group of minority families who live here.
I don't agree with saying we know what kind of people live in Brookdale. I think there is a small group there who are feeding this and I think they are spreading the misinformation all over the place. That's what's sad is that uninformed people will just believe it and spread it.
I'm sure there are a lot of good people there.

Are you referring to my desperate remark? That is just my opinion. I didn't know I needed proof to express my opinion. Nor have I called anyone racist. I was referring to the article and Jennifer's comment, not people on this board. IMO people are emotional or desperate or whatever you want to call it and therefore, desperate times call for desperate measures and name calling occurs.

Does it really need to be either/or? I am sure that there are people who simply want what they believe they voted for, and nothing more. And some that would like us to pick the site that poses the least risk. And some who want to stop this fiscally irresponsible nonsense of juggling contracts and lawsuits and throwing good money after bad. All make perfect, logical sense. And I'm sure that there are people that are for the Eola site who really feel that the site is safe, and we would have been able to remediate any problems and have a wonderful place for a school. And that it was the fiscally responsible choice. But no one wants to talk about any of that. They'd rather take the easy way out and call this something it's not. And I do feel like the Sun is irresponsibly perpetuating the problem by publishing only the extreme points of view and stirring the pot. But I do feel at the end of the day that people understand very clearly what the situation is here, and taking pot shots at people in the paper is intentional and it's damaging, and those who are doing it know exactly what they're doing. They want their way and they don't care who they take down with them. "This whole thing has got to stop. I can't stand the racist etc comments. Jill-- don't forget, the SD is being SUED. I"m cetain they are under the direction of their attys to keep quiet. As far as suggestions for above board conduct I could drone on forever. For starters, don't perpetuate myths and pretend your suit is about the safety of children in order to raise money to sue your fellow district taxpayers. Secondly VOTE-- the voter turn out levels are typically pretty low for the local elections (not the referendum of course, but for the sb positions- yes). Since there are so many people out there on both side who think they can do better-- they should RUN for office!

The votes for BB apparently don't mean a darn thing!
