I was in attendance for this meeting. CB was available to answer any and all questions regarding the 3rd HS, as well as other subjects. Without getting into detail about the discussion, it is important to note that the overwhelming concern of those in attendance was that the SB must improve communication. While I walked away from the discussion feeling that many concerns regarding the events of the past several months were communicated, I also believe that the SB and Admin. look at where they are today as a series of unfortunate events, not as a result of their poor decision making and communication skills. IMO. The new NV principal was invited to the meeting and in attendance and I felt did a very nice job of jumping into the discussion and interfacing with the small parent group in attendance.

IMO. I did not attend the meeting last night, however, I get that sense from hearing the board and admin speak. This makes me sad for our future because you cannot learn from your mistakes until you admit that you've made them. This makes me angry because one of my biggest pet peeves is people that play the victim. Step up and take responsibility for what is going on! We are not clinging to a liferaft being buffeted by the ocean! We are spending $150 M on a new school!!! $150M! Arg.

People seem to forget that fact.

Agree - playing victim is such a weak argument. Don't kid yourself as this "plan" comes to light w/BB trial. When the magnifying glass comes out, they wont be able to hide behind "the series of events were unfortunate and they are victims of circumstance". I just smile thinking how often Curly says that !!! Many were calculated, and deliberate. Now I would assume they didn't have the desired end results, but it is clear that some of those actions did. Each and every SB member / Admin made their own decisions for each and every step of the way and it will surface.
He also had an opportunity to take a position and he has. Recently, some members chose to vote for and only one against . I do think it's a little too early for CB to be campaigning though. We have other problems to deal with.

This is a little off topic, but it strikes me odd that the latest principal hires (NV & WV) have come from the outside which is very different from the "home grown" patterns of the past. Is this Dr. D's way of having fresh blood to shape? Wonder how these decisions are sitting with current admins. Perhaps this is his (Dr. D's) way of changing the culture.
BTW: I had a chance to speak privately with NV principal. He's personable, relatively young, but street wise (politically savvy). IMO

I was looking online and couldn't find the board member's assigned schools. Don't they each have schools that they are the main board contact for?
Is Curt assigned to both NV and Fry?

Not sure about NVHS but Curt is assigned to Fry. Not that it matters who the SB liason is, Metzger was assigned to Fry last year and never came to speak or attend any event despite numerous invitations. I heard he was afraid of the "hostiles" that live in the Fry attendance areas. That came from a very good source> ETA: what good is having a SB liason that won't visit your school?

I'm not sure that "fresh blood" is the best way to describe it, but definitely a case of Dr. D putting his stamp on the district. The one thing that hasn't been mentioned is that the new WV principal is leaving her position because she is retiring in Arizona, so this is another pension-maximization move, which has a definite appeal to most superintendents. Beyond that, I get the impression that Dr. D wants to have true "pedagogues," to use his word, in charge of the schools. It appears he values advanced degrees and training from the finest schools. For example, the new NV principal went to Northwestern and Harvard. While the new WV principal is older and went to NIU for her degrees, she did attend the Harvard Principal Academy. Of course, the only way to be sure would be over mint juleps on Dr. D's veranda.

I'm not sure, but is the Harvard Principal's Academy something you have to apply for or write a check for?

Interesting given what a pompous, arrogant, insensitive guy he proves to be each and every day. Bullies are not afraid are they?
