I always thought this age range was before K. Age range is between 6 and 10. Language, however, is understood better at an older age. Maybe I am confusing this with the primary language center of the brain which I believe is set in the earlier time frames.

RU,
I think you were addressing me, not SSM. Anyway, no I don't know the age. I'll take your word for it. As I said regarding what they do in MS, IMO.

Dave Zolner, the new technology guy spoke for about 1/2 hour. MIS and IT have merged. They are creating leadership areas so that they can do more than just react. Long range plans are being made in regard to budget and tech plans. They are looking at a five year cycle. They are partnering with curricular areas. Beyond that they are looking at e school and technical curricular changes. They have consolidated the printer toner contract for all schools into one contract which also includes service and cleaning. The district has 3000 printers and this is saving the district money (didn't say how much). A goal is to have digital projectors in each classroom as a key to connecting with students. Working on a fiber network to connect all schools to be completed by the middle to end of next year. This opens up remote access for staff, parents and students. This is important - THEY ARE LOOKING TO FORM A TECH ADVISORY COMMITTEE WITH PEOPLE FROM THE COMMUNITY. I would suggest if you are interested to contact him. Pinnacle online grading system will be replaced after next year. The question was asked where the money was coming from for this. The answer was he didn't know (actually he said they were going to have a bake sale - great sense of humor). He was not sure where the money was coming from.I think we all know where the money comes from...

Foreign language is being looked at. I did not get the impression from what he said that it would begin this fall. I agree that foreign language in ES is wonderful. IMO what they do in MS in this district is worthless. I misread the notes. They will be looking at in in '08-09, not implementing in 08-09? That makes more sense. I am anxious for the details as I did a bit of research on immersion programs. Most teach most or all of the core subjects in the foreign language, starting in K. Not sure how this will impact the teacher's contracts? Not sure how many of our ES teachers are currently bilingual? I am "pro" foreign language in ES, however, I would still like to be informed about the details before it is approved and implemented.

thank you for the update snm I am in favor of foreign language in ES. I believe D203 is going with full immersion (last I heard). That seems like a fast roll out - starting next fall? That is a lot of change for one year. Too much change at once makes managing the fallout and monitoring what to tweak very difficult. I hope they can keep all of the plates spinning. I hope we don't lose good educators in this district due to these changes and more importantly the ways they are being made.

I'm wondering if we are going to lose good teachers and administrators as well. I've heard a lot of grumbling from the teachers and administrators I speak with.
I just spent three long days volunteering in a 204 school this week. During that time, I heard many teachers criticize the leadership of 204. In fact, a great many teachers (and administators) are disgusted with the high school situation.
Negotiating the next teacher's contract may be a nightmare.

Same grumblings going on in this neck of the woods too. Many employees moving on.

Not calling whole neighborhoods names would be a start...

Is there someplace we can find out what public relations strategies are being implemented? 1) Diffuse all criticism.

I'm wondering if that goofy email from Daeschner after MWGEN backed out is part of a "plan." I'm hoping it's not part of the strategy because if so, we are headed down the wrong path.

Dangit, where's that "PR for Dummies" book again? Hang on a minute, it says "inform" the community, not "insult" the community. DOH!
