If kids want to stick with a Native American related animal, we can add "Golden" to the name to make it unique, not in conflict with nearby school....
Golden Eagles, Golden Mustangs, Golden Bears, etc.
I think this takes a common name and makes it more "ours", adds a classy touch.

Here's a name that is both evocative of the previous Native American heritage of this area, and aptly fits our enthusiast and motivated teenage students:
Metea Valley Spirits
I personally like a name that is different, not trite, and hits on a couple of different levels.

I think we would have to worry to much about PC again, though. We already had to deal with the "spirits" that Metea consumed. Then there is the religious aspect.

My Still middle-schooler (MVHS class of 2012) told me of a meeting today for 6th and 7th graders who will be future MV students. It was to vote on new school colors and mascot. The original input apparently came from WV and NV students.
The ballot was....
Colors: Black & Gold Crimson & Gold Maroon & Gold Purple & Gold
Mascot: Lions Mustangs Wolverines Stallions
The exit-polling I conducted shows a vote for Purple & Gold, and a vote for Stallions.

My Still MS 6th grader (MVHS 2013): Black and gold, Mustang
My daughter said her friends were voting mainly purple and gold and either Mustang or Wolverine.

Whatever wins....I WILL demand a recount!!!!!!!!....Just Kidding! Just got this email from Still. My daughter had mentioned to me that several of her McCarty friends were included in the voting. Dear Still News Subscribers: On Friday, December 15th, 6th & 7th grade students who live in the attendance areas of the new high school, Matea Valley High School, were asked to vote on school colors and mascots for the school. However, there were subdivisions on our list that should not have been on the list, and consequently, some students were in the meeting who will not be attending the new high school. I plan to meet with those students this week to explain the misunderstanding. Students who live in the subdivisions of Ogden Pointe, Pheasant Creek, Diamond Bay, and Laurel Ridge were included in the meeting, but those subdivisions will remain in the attendance areas of Waubonsie Valley High School.

My daughter seems to think Wolverines got a lot of votes. So the administration chose to have the mascot "candidates" originate from WV and NV high schoolers.... Were they worried that middle schoolers were so "immature" they might include comic book characters on the list?

Where did Howie get these choices, the back of a 1895 college recruiting brochure? These colors seem to be way out of style!!! Unless we are just trying cater to the brainwashed alumni out there who might donate money? (I guess it would be ok with me if they actually did this if I saw the receipt for the donation first). Also, it seems to me the mascot should not clash with the color selection. Or else we might end up with something as laughable as: the Purple and Gold Redbirds or the Black and Gold BlueDevils (oh, that's not PC, i forgot)

Does everyone really believe that the votes will be tallied and the students will pick?? No, next week, all the White Eagle and Tallgrass people are going to meet with M2 and BG at the WE clubhouse and then really decide on the colors and mascot. The ballot boxes will be dumped into WE lake around midnight and the ballots will be burned on the 18th green. The ceremonial song of the Masonites will be sung back-wards led by the 2nd shooter of JFK and the Illuminati. The HS's name will be changed to White Eagle and the nickname will be Tallgrassians. The colors will be green and white with threads of red and blue. The mascot will be the $. And the odds of this winding up in a Sara Hooker article as truth is even money. Honestly, why would they fake an election? It would take to much effort to do it. And, we now Howie doesn't exert much effort.
