OK, when life gives you lemons, you make lemonade. What are things the district can do FOR FAMILIES to make life with MVHS easier?
Let's exclude boundary changes for now. What else can the district do to HELP FAMILIES??
Current freshman class: Should the kids moving to WVHS be allowed to go to WVHS this fall? What are the numbers? Recall the main bldng capacity doesn't matter - they will be there already. We're talking about the WE/TG/Pet eight graders starting at their HS as freshman at the gold bldng, which has a capacity of 1200.
Should the class of 12 from NVHS be given the OPTION to go to WVHS this fall? Certainly this would make their sports/friends issues easier. Are there any cons to, at least, giving families the choice?
Should families be given the option to "grandfather" a sibling, if they have another student currently attending the HS? This makes life easier for that familiy, to not force people to run between two HSs. I understand after 2011 there would be no bus service for people opting for this. I understand the kids would have to seperate from their friends, but again should we give parents the OPTION if they feel it will be a burden on their family?
Any other ideas

What do the 2012 grads (incoming freshmen) at WV do that are slated to swing over to MV?
I like the grandfathering idea. I will have a senior at WV next year as well as a Freshman, and 2 more coming through the ranks a couple years after that (for what would have been a total of 12 consecutive years there).
Personally, I would like to keep them all through the same school even if that means I have to get them there and bring them back myself.

Lets stop calling the gold campus the WVHS Freshman Center. Most of those kids will be at Metea as sophmores.
I still like the idea of sending all WVHS Freshmen (and if necessary even sophmores) to the MVHS building in 2009.
In the end you have one MV/WV freshman campus that is housied at the WV Gold building in 2008-09 and then housed in the MV building in 2009-10.

Of course all ideas are mute as I was told flat out there would be NO exceptions. I would like to have seen anyone scheduled to go to MV that would not have the same opportunity at MV in 09 they would have at WV to be able to stay also. Screw the buses I would gladly have driven them. This would include any varsity team sport or any musical offering not totally available either. I totally understand the thoughts on the kids changing from NV to WV - and not to downplay them - but at least they will have a complete HS offering list to choose from. I know someone here in Watts that was working on getting Lacrosse into WVHS next year also - just one more thing that won't be at MV. So forthoseNV LaCrosse players - they will not have to stop the sport

Why is it okay to sacrifice the experience of one class? It is an unfair burden being asked of those who are already bearing the brunt of the changes. At the very least it should be a CHOICE for the class of 2012. Why can't that be? What is truly gained by pulling them?

We get overcrowding relief from the phantom 1800ish kids that never materialized.

Nothing except the continued march of the "we know what is better for your kid than you do arrogance" You move them from where they should be - then they go to a temporary HS for a year (lots of spirit there) - - then in our area's case- get moved to a partially complete HS almost as far from home as one can get and still be 204 -- Class of 2012 - the totally screwed !

Arch, I believe there were 950?? at WVHS Gold this year, and 1280 at NV Gold?? I will stand corrected if someone has more recent #s.
The eigth grade class from WE/Fry is about 260-300?? I understand it would overcrowd the freshman center at WV, but would it be any more than NV's overcrowding??

I'm not sure about those specific numbers but I'll take your word for it. 300 isn't a benign move and that also assumes that both gold campuses are set up the same way with the same numbers of classrooms, configurations, etc. I honestly don't know if they are able to push that many over at once with how WV gold is currently configured/outfitted. It might be possible, it might not. I honestly don't know. However, I'm sure somehow somewhere someone will be able to show that the desire to move them to WV gold early is indicative of those elitists just not wanting to go to WVHS.

Well here are some sobering numbers for ya, which I am sure with all the newfound communication increases likely will be released to everyone soon.. June 2008 final attendance numbers are in - and geez, get ready for split shifts in the future folks ---- LOL The June IPSD 204 total kids was 28732 which was 288 kids more than June 2007. But wait - 100 of that increase was in pre school & special ed pre school - not affected seats in the other schools)- so that increase now becomes 188. the ES school numbers continued their decline - down 228 from the previous year - or a 2% decline. MS was up 157. Someone seriously needs to put out what the projections from March are for the future of 204. The ones done in March likely may need to be adjusted down from the 8923 in HS in 2012 again, as ES continues to slide. I have the breakdowns by school if anyone is interested

I would like to see the numbers as well. Unfortunately, I think it will only serve to expand my ever growing ulcer.
