thanks, doc, for the background with St C N. Good precedent with the conference. I absolutely would support MV fielding varsity girls soccer and softball, if the admin thinks they would be competitive (my gut says they would be).
As I said before, I think this is certainly the way to go, as opposed to some cumbersome "exception" policy.....which MV admin has already said is not going to happen. (Ref MV parents mtg discussion comments from green message board)
I dont know if I made the point early, but I think it is important: I think girls sports probably have a better chance of having the freshman & sophs compete at varsity level, just because of girls physically developing faster than boys. So just because some teams would be appropriately competitive (girls soccer, softball) that is not saying that others would be (boys soccer, baseball).
I think St C N did it exactly right. Maybe MV can do it just that same way. I think there is time to make that happen.
you have to include girls basketball and volleyball in that as well as they are totally club dominated sports. There is still plenty of time schedule for fall- the schedules are not complete yet - I confirmed that.
Also boys soccer I believe would be just as competitive because again, many soccer club players do not play senior year due to scheduling conflicts ( some also don't play jr year) so squads are dominated by younger players anyway.
thank you for being fair in your evaluation of this. For some- nothing is a good example - everything is somehow an exception.
And remember at the AD pointed out - they were able to do this even after ST Charles East had to move into their school for the rest of the year - think of those logistics - what a nightmare that had to be- yet it didn't stop them from doing what is right. I hope the AD has the shackles taken off and is given the opportunity here as well.
let' give these kids a chance. I believe it is good for the whole school- but then what the hell do I know I guess.
I agree this way is less cumbersome and better overall for the school long term - however if they don't do it then I believe the exception process ( and I understand people are already writing letters) - should be in place.
