I read the quote as meaning that NV does not want the kid staying, sportsmom. But it's nice to know you don't want the parents. the head of the booster club wants you for sure - he told all of us about it over a year ago...

Ditto for NV kids moving to WV. One situation I have heard of involves a Class of 2013 student bound for WV. This student tried out and made a team at WV. All of the sudden this student's parents are getting *cough-cough* divorced and one parent will reside in the WV district the other will reside in the NV district. That student then tried out for the same team at NV and made it. Let's do the translation. Said student tries out and makes a team at WV. The family decides that they really don't want to go to the oldest high school in the district. They want their child to go to NV, the school they always thought they were going to. They fake a divorce (real divorce but on paper only), rent an apartment, keep their current house and deal with it for 4 years. Said student graduates, they re-marry, give up the apartment and all is well in their world. ETA - I don't think the district can do ANYTHING to prevent the above from occurring. If the family can afford to do that, it is up to them. Also, from a legal stand point, the district shouldn't touch it. Remember, they said they couldn't "legally" do anything about rapists attending school with their victim. Enlighten me here....you are talking about a current 8th grader (class of 2013) ? The only try outs that have occurred for 8th graders is at the cheerleading, Poms and maybe color guard level. Are you telling me this kid made both the WV and NV CHEERLEADING squads and now the parents are doing this divorce thing so their kid can be a freshman cheerleader/pom/color guard at NV? ? You've got to be kidding me. The reality is: NVHS class size will be higher than WVHS. The opportunities at WVHS will be far greater than NVHS. Just because an 8th grader makes a team at NV as a freshman there is no guarantee they will make it at the Vasrity level. If fact, the odds of playing at the Varsity level are greater at WVHS than NVHS purely due to numbers. This family is certifiable. I can only imagine how they meddle in other areas of their kids' lives. It is their kids that I feel truly sorry for. They will have a hard time making a 'go' of it in the real world. We are completely on the same page here Sportsmom.

WOW! As a WVHS parent of 2010, 2014 and 2016 I take great offense to your statement that WVHS doesn't want the kids that are coming from NVHS. I have personally gone out of my way to try to include current 9th graders who will be coming over - I was also involved in Middle school night for the football players and Scullen kids and families were very welcomed. If anything , it may be the parents we don't want, but no one ever said we didn't want the kids. Thanks for the backup slp and rew. You were correct in how you read my statement. Ok. I thought I was pretty clear that I was actually speaking about the NV parents not wanting us but it appears by your statement Sportsmom, WV doesn't either. Sorry but the parents come with the kids, it's a package deal and for someone who believes they have done everything possible to "include current 9th graders" and goes out of their way to make sure the "families were very welcomed" your parting comment doesn't show that. I have posted again and again how wonderful the WV staff and Boosters have been to my family. I have also posted that I have personally heard NV parents comment that "they couldn't wait to get these White Eagle and Tall Grass people out of here". I posted that last year. Some NV parents are under the impression that with us gone their children will have more opportunities. Put yourself in our shoes. Some NV parents can't wait until we go and some WV parents will take our kids but don't want the parents. How would you feel? I am betting it's not welcomed. Lighten up!! My error for not following this board often enough and to know where you live and your stand on issues. I apologized already. Check your attitide at the front door and you and your child will have an excellent 3 years at Waubonsie. I am soon to be off to a big WVHS and NVHS baseball showdown and then across the field to watch the Girls Varsity playoff game. I hope in future years I will be cheering with you in the stands for both our Warriors- whether it's sports, band, chorus, dance, etc. The opportunities are endless.

Very curious. Very inappropriate thing to say. The comment about the parents was "off the cuff". it is the parents that are just ridiculous about the whole transition thing and class of 2012 thing. The parents post on these boards, not the kids. The parent crap about their "property taxes" entitling them to attending Neuqua, not the kids. I am sorry and I should have deleted that off the cuff comment before I posted.

I read the quote as meaning that NV does not want the kid staying, sportsmom. But it's nice to know you don't want the parents. Ha! I did misread it. Understand I thought there was a story out there that WVHS didn't want the kids. (But why does NVHS not want the kids?? Admin, teachers or other parents??) Of course I was very offended by that and inapporpiately blamed the parents - as we all know the kids will be fine. I do apologize!!!! I want any and all parents at WVHS that want to be at WVHS. We don't need any more negativity at Waubonsie. Understandable Sportsmom. Waubonsie has been ignored by the Admin/SB for many years and has been misrepresented by some students and parents in our district. It is that exact thing that should bind us all. TG and WE have been treated the same way.

This would have been for HS orientation last year... it was once of the most offensive things I have ever heard. He said the booster club was going to benefit from the change of boundaries and now be able to compete on a level playing field with Neuqua, where they couldn't before the changes. As I sat there and listened to this ignorant comment with a bunch of other parents from Watts/Hill we looked at each other and couldn't believe our ears. We bent the ears of both Jim Schmidt and Rudy Keller ( whom most of us have known for a long time) - however the booster club pres left before the grouping in the field house. To me it was the beginning of the socio economic 'balancing' that caused Watts and Cowlishaw to move to the other end of the district for high school. Broke my heart that day and still does today. We lived and breathed for WVHS , I guess that wasn't enough

I didn't even see it until AFTER I posted. *sigh*

I can understand your skepticism rural, if I weren't surrounded by that mentality I would find it hard to believe as well. However, I can only tell you what I know. I will also say that in the case of sibling division, REAL scholarship opportunities, and serious environmental fears, I don't blame people for trying to find a solution that works best for their families. It is within their rights. However, if it is simply a case of trying to stay at the newer school or because of ridiculous prejudices, I think that's unacceptable. Bottom line, I don't know everyone's personal situation. I would just like to think that for people to take such a drastic step as divorcing just to go to a specific high school, it would be for DIRE circumstances.
