You can probably slide Ashwood into MV but I really need to see numbers.
If we have too much land, a Pre-k center can be built later if we have money blah blah blah.

Ooh - so we can sell the Wheatland property, then some day, build pre-k on the excess BB land! ETA: and if we own the property that the 204 District offices are on, we can sell that & build another district building on the excess BB property, too. I know my thinking is getting a bit far out of the box...

I based the savings off of Oswego's cost.
Do we have anything needed to be built (keep all 3 HS basically the same) that Oswego doesn't have?

Do we have anything needed to be built (keep all 3 HS basically the same) that Oswego doesn't have? Probably not. That's why there should be accountability explaining the cost differential of MVHS and Oswego East. Anyone remember how several of us questioned the SB during Referendum time about how Oswego could build a HS (excluding land costs) for considerably less than 204? It fell on deaf ears and was never answered. Maybe someone can quote the cost of building Oswego East excluding land? I think it's time that as a community we demand answers from the SB. Let's get some of the lawyers, accountants, top business persons in our SD involved and see what can be meted out. Let's go line item by line item and do some bean-counting. There have been numerous examples of contracts that the SD has awarded that I have questioned (outside consulting services, prefered vendor for music - Quinlan & Fawbush (sp?), school photographer services, etc.). Though I can't put my finger on anything it does look like there's often a "gentlemen's agreement" going on. No matter how you slice it often it appears we pay more for services simply because we're in Naperville. Check vet services, dental services, salons, whatever it's always cheaper to use a surrounding community like Plainfield, Bolingbrook, or Oswego than Naperville. Sad but true.

Yes, there's a premium. Most people price themselves based on the ability of the customers to pay. Sad, but true. I don't think for a minute the SB has anything to do with the fixing of prices of vet, dental, saloons or other services in the community though.

Bump - Interesting that 50+% have voted that the SB should proceed with BB. I'd like to see a larger number of voters - if you haven't voted, please vote. I'd ammend my "proceed with BB" with a "build it for 2,500, with the ability to add on the extra 500".

That's not what I was implying. ???Can you imagine what havoc could be reaked if our SB could control that? However, I do think the SB and SD has something to do with determining outside services/contractors that they choose to do business with. I've been told the cost of renting an instrument from Q&F (District 204's vendor) in District 204 is more expensive for the exact same instrument than the rental is in Plainfield 202. Why is that? Incindentally, you can rent from your own vendor for less than have the cost of the "preferred vendor". Why is the cost of photography vendor services so different in the ES, MS, and HS (I've got kids at each and have compared the services)? There are lots of examples but my point is we shouldn't just ASSume that our SB always is getting the best deal for us just because they say so. How short-sighted.

Bump - Interesting that 50+% have voted that the SB should proceed with BB. Oh please! You can hardly call 27 votes a statistically sound survey and say that over 50% voted to proceed with BB. It is really 14 votes vs. 12. All that number really means is that there are 27 of us that have nothing better to do on a Friday than to go on this site I'd be curious what the numbers would be in the general public. I'm glad the survey was posted and I hope more people vote but I'd be careful drawing any conclusions from the small survey.

Using the price per student from the Oswego page It is a $17,500,000 savings. Rew that is genius. I believe OEHS has 2500 design capacity. And working the dollar savings from another direction... wikepedia says: Oswego East High School opened its doors... in 2004 at a cost of 65 million. Now assume this was paid for 5 years ago, and construction costs have gone up avg of 6% a year (a realistic number discussed some months ago on this board).... then the 2008 cost for an Oswego East like school: $87 million. this is in exact agreement w/ bobs savings estimate, meaning it checks exactly with the $35,000 per student price tag (I am stunned the numbers came to agree like this on my very first pass) Rew, I too think you are a genuis!

I wonder if its "psychologically" significant that nobody has voted to walk away from BB....all of the no votes have been Run!!!! Makes me think those voters might be going less on logic and perhaps more on emotion

There is more service that you get from the preferred vendor. For example, my son rents a viola. Music teacher calls me up and says that after a year, he really should have 1 size down. She asks if I am using Q&F and I say yes. They will have one just show up at the school and swap it out and I don't have to do anything whatsoever. When I rented my other son's violin from Ellman's in the past they did no such thing. Over the years, the times I had to go down to Ellman's because they did not do things through the school cost me more in gas and time than it would have to just pay Q&F's prices and never have to leave my house on account of the instrument.

While I agree it doesn't qualify as a scientifically sound sample - you realize AC Nielsen posts TV ratings from a sample size of just 5000 for the entire US - and those are in 'clusters' -- and people make larger $ decisions on those ratings than this is

I have spoken with neighbors and I will back what the poll is showing. Responses are"pay it and move forward now" or "run". I think it is a function of whether you are looking at the situation as an overcrowding issue, or you are looking at it from a cost perspective. And, not surprising, the people who want to "pay it" have kids in the system and people who want to look at other options are those not immediately impacted (no kids or young kids).
Bottom line is that if you can build it without asking for additional funds I think the majority of people don't want to hear about it.
FYI - I used 2006 report card numbers, enrollment in May 2006.
Some notes-- with the present enrollment and using avgs etc(very rough #s). The ESs currently feeding into our HSs, send 4400 to WVHS and 4600 to NVHS (this does not factor in LeHigh station etc). Yes, the housing industry has slowed, but those townhomes will be filled, even if the builders sell at rock bottom prices.
If you use those figures the ESs feeding the three HSs would be WV 2700 MV 2700 NV 3600.
Again this is old data and does not factor any growth/projections etc.
