I didnt look at the LABEL on the side of the building at the time. Sorry!! Geez. The point is they werent very good quality and they didnt have lockers to house the kids supplies, they had hooks on the back wall. It wasnt a classroom. IT was a trailer. Shame on Yorkville for not doing it right the 'first time'. That would not pass muster here in Ken and Barbie ville?!!! Dist 204 would, of course, purchase the best building for the need.

[quote The life cycle of portables is 5 years - I implore you to Prove it ;D Portables have been installed on numerous SD's around the country, many going on 20 year use...if it is used it is of VALUE And trust me, 'modular constructions' are very flexible and can be leased/rented or moved etc. [/quote] I know how much you love numbers - you say so all the time - if something is fully depreciated it has no ASSET value. Accounting 101 Are you in the trailer rental business ?

Hmm, isn't it possible the quid pro quo of item 681 was tied to 682? 681 being the high school assignment of Ashwood area (which was declined and deferred). Low and behold, item 682 is declining this *cough* gift *cough* of portables for NVHS. Like it or not, declining both was the right choice because a developer should not have control of boundaries. Had they accepted it, I'm sure there would have been talk of scandal, corruption, favoritism, etc. Prove there wouldn't have been.

Harry, Run for SB in 2009 and lead us to the promise land. I would never stoop so low to work with #$#%!!!!! It requires acts of selflessness... I know.. that's tough for some.

The logic on this is escaping me. We're are overcrowded now, and we're not doing anything about it. Therefore, it must not be a priority, or we must not be as overcrowded as we think, so we don't need a 3rd HS. Then we talk about the lifespan of portable classrooms...
We have an overcrowding problem now. This is true, and obvious to anyone who goes to class in a portable classroom, shares a locker, eats lunch at 9:30am or has ever made the mistake of walking up the down only stairwell during passing period.
And that sucks. The people who have kids dealing with it now are bummed out. I am one of those people. My son does deal with it, but at the same time, it is uncomfortable for him and the rest of the students. They have portables, but they don't solve anything but classroom space. The rest is just the reality of too many kids and not enough building.
And just because they can deal with it doesn't make it ideal.
So we are overcrowded now. What are we doing? The only thing we can. Portables are being used to try to alleviate the classroom space situation. But they just can't solve for all the other areas where overcrowding manifests. And we can't build anything fast enough to solve it for these kids caught in it now, and that's just the reality of the situation. Maybe we will go to split shifts. Maybe we will change boundaries. If it gets too bad, those are decisions that will probably have to be made. There are not really that many choices at this point, are there?
And we tried to not be caught in this position. It wasn't like we didn't see this coming. Ideally, the ref would have been passed in 2005, and we would have the solution in place by now. That didn't happen. And now we're hitting more snags out of everyone's control, and it sucks.
But just because my son can and will deal with a crowded HS because we couldn't build fast enough doesn't mean that another kid should, if we have the opportunity to address and fix the situation. So build the school as soon as possible and help the kids coming behind us, so they don't need to deal with it and their parents don't have to have this exact conversation five years from now.

Life has never nor never will be 'ideal'...Really And what kind of uncomfortability is your son, specifically experiencing?? Ask him, would he rather go to a different school that is less crowded just for comfort sake??? Me thinks that is doubtful. If Scullen were so overcrowded, they would have enough portables for an entire class to matriculate between just those portables and that includes portables for lunch hour. Scullen shares lockers??? I thought someone on this board shot down that ugly rumor here. I don't have kids at Scullen. No one makes the mistake at any school overcrowded or not, of going up or down a wrong staircase after a few weeks. Lunch at 930??? DEAL!!!! If Scullen were so overcrowded, then why aren't there split shifts there today? If Scullen were so overcrowded, then why is there a unique/longer passing bell to alleviate crowding in the halls??? If Scullen were so overcrowded, why wasn't a special referendum done in 2005 for an addition??? HS won't be built for another 3 years, leaving Scullen 'overcrowded' for 5 years. Overcrowding is not being taken care of by our SD because there is no overcrowding. Otherwise MORE things than a trailer or two would be implemented. So don't be bummed

Action was taken in 2005 - to build a new HS AND additional MS from WV Gold - referendum. Sure - why not a 'special' referendum ? How did the first one do that year ? 2. the timeline on building a school is NOT 3 years - it is 16 - 18 months once they break ground - see Oswego East or Plainfield East - that quite the liberty with time frames there 3. Lunch at 9:30 when you've had breakfast at 7 - ( and then nothing to eat until they get home at 3:30 - yeah such a deal- the sarcasm is really weak. fence, you're obviously just imagining things as harry who has no kids there knows far better than you what your kids are going through at Scullen...

The timeline on building a 3rs hs is three years, especially when you don't even own one square inch of land in Dec of 2007 ;D Plus, Naperville/Aurora is building a much bigger and better school than either of those districts. 3. Lunch @ 930 after 7 a.m. breakfast Again DEAL!!! Or do like other hungry kids do ....grab a candy bar/power bar between or even in class. Stick to the MAJOR issues and not curly fried @ 930 a.m. for your edification, Fence has already been thru 6-8 grade

for your edification, Fence has already been thru 6-8 grade I am sure fence has and then went on to high school and college. What are you talking about? I am not sure what you are trying to say and I wouldn't want to overreact.

Yeah!!
I was feeling the same mind pull back.
However, good question from harry.
Fence, do you really have kids at Scullen or did I read something wrong?
ETA: You recently posted your child goes to the most crowded middle school, I assume you meant Scullen, no?

Those nasty facts keep getting in the way. How did they build them in 3 years - magic ? 3. proper nutrition at tha age is important - you of all people should know that. Feel free to eat twice in 2 hours as you seem to be agreeing with, I thought you had a concern over the obesity issue in our school children -- again - more nasty facts in the way. as far as the last statement - have no idea what fence having gone thru 6-8th grade is all about - please read the statement I made- it references what's good for 'their' kids -- geez

And yes, a vast majority of students in our district,,,strike that,in AMERICA don't miss a calorie,,,thus leading to our obesity epidemic but you should know all of this
