WE4, maybe AE will share some of that huge fish he has there for Friday diner ;D I was also wise enough to not give up beer for Lent. Give up beer for lent ? I don't want to be canonized - I just want to balance the sheet..... btw - just picked up a case of Land Shark Lager ( Jimmy Buffet's new label)- just available here-- already one in and I like it ! I'll be by in a minute, Doc..

Kinda fun though, isn't it? As long as you're willing to take what you're willing to dish out Please do explain..... I didn't know I was "dishing out" anything but my opinions - which are protected under the First Amendment.

Dr. Daeschner, imo, is right on with this idea. My freshman college kid told me last fall that the best thing about college is the extra couple of hours sleep in the morning, actually said "I feel so much more alert and ready to learn". My college kid wasn't into sports, but noted that the kids who were, and didn't make college teams, just don't know what to do with themselves at college but hang around and play ultimate frisbee. and beer bongs. This is all part of the "script". they can now feel better, not good, about the bussing fiasco, by going back to the D204 Community and say "look at all the good things we are doing for you". Now he is going to solve all the traffic problems that IDOT cant even do. Give me another break please...........

People are always quick to compare 204 schools to other high performing schools in the metro area. I just checked their websites, New Trier starts regular academic classes at 8:15, and Stevenson starts at 8:05. Those kids are getting almost an hour of extra sleep every night than our kids. Most high schools in the Chicago burbs start at about 8am. Only plainfield and oswego start as early as we do (7:20am). Plainfield and Oswego arent looking so bad about now........how far away do we have to go to get away from the insanity. as someone stated - this is a setup for the next meeting to approve the "agenda". They can always claim " hey we put everyone on notice and we had no strong objections". ALso like the "cabinet" reference.

There are 24 hours in a day. How one wishes to shift their own body clock and schedule does not change the fact that there are still only 24 hours in a day. No extra hour is gained by anything. The day does not become 25 hours long because District 204 says so. Even if Dash has the data and says you are wrong? "the research is undeniable - lets be honest" wants to make you just hurl

On the comment above from hopeful-- yeah all jocks are stupid -- how far will some people go to support this guy ? Most sports teams in high school have some ofhte highest GPA's in the school - and the picture that they are reduced towandering idiots because they don't make a college team is really pathetic. As the father of someone who did play college ball - and knowing a lot of others that did also - most of these kids are also top academic kids ( to squelch the rumor now that sports aren't important and college athletes end up being ultimate frisbee players instead of getting jobs ) - Yeah all non HS athletes in class promptly at 8 AM getting brilliant and HS athletes wandering the earth aimlessly -- unbelievable ! If Dr. D didn't want a school where sports are important ( or matter at all ) - then he shouldhave build a magnet school for the top studnets only- and only those kids that want to go there- rather than implement crap that affects All the students in the district shouldn't he. Sports and other extra curriculars are part of the high school experience for most kids-sorry - and they don't turn into babbling idiots as portrayed by hopefull. But hey - follow whatever he says without objection - he is the genius inthe district obviously.. just salute as he enters and ask what else we can do without question..... and next time an idea comes up, maybe support or don't support it based on merit of the suggestion, as opposed to trying to make an entire group of former students look like idiots to do so --

some of our most famous and influental US Presidents were academic all americans - in sports - no less. but hey they were just Presidents of the most important in the world. what kind of weak credentials are those.............sports who needs em......"lets be honest here." Boy I just cant get away from that one. I wondering if anyone smurked or laughed when he said that. Like he does at the SB meetings.

It is not that I hate because I did not get what I want. No I did not like the site of the third HS, no I was not happy about going to the third furthest HS from my house, no I did not think ADK should have been approved because of problems with overcrowding at some of our ES, I was willing to just keep moving forward. But now on top of everything else they want to implement a change that will cost my family in after school care (hundreds of dollars a month, and I can not be the only working parent that will feel this burden) and my sports nut of a child is pretty much of an idiot because he is driven by sports (which by the way being in sports in my house means keeping up with grades)

I honestly don't know why I even post on this forum. You guys are so mad, and I don't dispute that you have every right to be! I just offered one "observation" made by my kid. I never insinuated that athletes were anything less than brilliant. I am continually amazed at the level of academic, musical, and physical talent of our 204 kids. The only point I was trying to make is that SOME kids that put a great deal of time and energy into sports in high school find themselves trying to fill that same "slot" of time in college. I'd imagine that most find another positive outlet later in life. Did I say that ultimate frisbee was a bad thing? My kids' observation was just that the interest / hobby he focused on in high school was one that he could continue for a lifetime. Is there any other country in the world that would deprive their kids of sleep so that they could manage sports practices? And YES, I'll support Dr. D when I agree with him. I feel very strongly about the later start time issue. full disclosure: I really don't get the whole sports scene..we're music folks.
